407ci W8 build getting close to dyno - 11/16/22 05:33 AM

R3 9.0 siamese
4.185 x 3.700
Diamond Piston 12.4CR
Bryant 3.70 crank
Early Brett W8s
2.19 Ti
1.60 Inconel
Stock cam bore
Predator 266/274 @ .050 .728"
Jesel Truck series rockers
Caliies Ultra Rods 6.000
598 intake-minor clean up and port match
Bob Book 4150

Waiting on Schoenfeld 2" dyno headers to show up next week

Plan was to hit it with a 250-275 wet shot

I know that intake is gonna hurt me.
I have one of Brett's big 420.2's but it don't want to cut it to fit until I get this thing running. And I don't own a 4500 anyhow.

Should be on a Stuska within a month. Wanna make a guess?

My hope is 700 @ 8000

If the power curve is gaining, will pull higher to nose-over

Re: 407ci W8 build getting close to dyno - 11/16/22 03:56 PM

Wow. Should do much better than 700, based on my 368" BattenW2 13.0:1 @ 640 - less lift, 850 CFM, 2" Stahls.
That's a lot of water control goin' on.

Man I’m envious of some of these small block builds. Lots of pretty going on there. Good luck with it.

700 HP should not be any trouble.

2+ HP per cubic inch would be expected.

Re: 407ci W8 build getting close to dyno - 11/16/22 04:48 PM

That is going to make well over 700hp.....I figure 750 with a 4500, subtract maybe 16hp for the 4150 and 734hp is my guess...

I don’t see how that thing wouldn’t crush 700hp.

Very nice motor! Thanks for sharing. What did Brett think it would make? I'm sure it'll make well over 700HP.

I'd think with the nitrous it'll be near 1000.

Mid 700s

These were heads that Brett had done a long time ago prior to me getting them. When he was at my house last year, he recognized them.

This is my first W engine, so I'm trying to be conservative with my expectations.

Re: 407ci W8 build getting close to dyno - 11/24/22 09:34 PM

taking the sawzall or cutoff wheel grinder is the first step.
don't forget to slot or drill one hole a couple of drill sizes bigger.
this will help a lot with sealing, as well as cracking that sometimes occurs at the head flange.
i "stole" these ideas off of member Mr. Pbody many, many [and more manys] years ago, and these ideas will seal even the thinnest of flanges and prevent cracking.
Thanks Mr. P ! up bow

You could send it to me, I'd dyno it, then put it in my Dart and run it. I could send you a report from time to time to keep you in the loop. It would save you a lot of work. laugh2
