Aluminum Hemi oil pans. - 11/11/22 02:07 AM

Hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone makes aluminum oil pans for a 426 hemi. I’ve looked at moroso and they don’t have a deep sump one. Who else makes good oil pans? I have a milodon 8qt now but it doesn’t have a dipstick spot in it and I’d like to find one that has one. Thanks.

Remember not to put the jack under the sump.

Shortys performance builds custom pans. Not sure he does center sump stuff but he does just about everything. Might give them a call. 559-770-7809 they are in California.

I did check out Charlie’s and even contacted them through email but they said they only do there own stuff. I didn’t know about dan Olsen so I’ll check them out, thanks for the help. I’ll definitely look into the suggestions.

Al, do you have more pics of that pan you can post? What is the cost on these pans? I need a pan for my 572 street/strip hemi. Gonna do external oiling.

That Shortys pan looks pretty nice. Most people do not know that good ol Moroso will custom make any pan you want. NOT cheap but very nice...Todd

Yep Moroso will make anything you can dream up for sure. shortys stuff is very nice, sorry no pics of the inside but typical with a windage tray of his design and scrapers on dragster style pans. He can build anything you want.

That's very pretty on the out side, but it's the inside that makes the HP.

In a BBM windage control is a HUGE issue, oil in suspension is never a good thing the skirted block dont help at all. Trust me Shortys stuff is very good. But in a pan like I posted one can only do so much. On a dragster style pan you have a lot more leeway to make it WAY better.

Re: Aluminum Hemi oil pans. - 11/13/22 05:41 PM

Why aluminum? I just run a Moroso flat bottom dual pick up oil pan on the street with no issues. However it is steel. With my accusump it is a 13 qt system.

I would assume that he wants to save weight by using aluminum. That can be deceiving though, I have seen some pretty thick, heavy, aluminum pans.

I ran a bunch of different custom pans, most of them built by Charlie, but the last pan I used on the dyno mule was a Moroso aluminum dragster pan. It had a big #20 AN fitting and we ran it with a belt drive pump. That setup really worked well.

That be true, that is why I make my own crankshaft scrapers wrench up

I have a cheap 440source aluminum center sump pan on mine. Been fine for years using a Milodon single external pickup system. The one in the pic is compressed slightly from a wheelstand, lol.
I did pick up a used Charlies pan a couple years ago, but I haven't gotten around to putting it on yet.
Those Shorty's pans look awesome!
