Updates...W/Better Pics - 10/03/22 12:48 AM

Well, as many know, I have a couple of projects in the works....And I do not watch any TV, and that include football, until it gets too cold anyway.

So as you know, I did get my 70 Cuda running....Took it to the track, made two passes, broke it. Somthing in the valve train, not sure yet. It had the wrong cam in it anyways and I don't think it liked street use, so now, we will be replacing that. Been talking with Tim at FHO, but he moved to Florida, and I suspect he has a lot of work on his hands at the moment. ....So after I get the issue fixed, I have to decide, do I keep it and try and get the power out of it I think it should have, or sell it and go a different route? I did get a data log of the run, learned a few things...

The lawn ornament has been getting worked on, and today, it got a well used boosted engine I picked up...Never owned a set of Trick flow heads, and now I have a set of 270's on a 440 based blower engine. It was run on E85 with an 871, and made lots of HP.....just need an intake, a blower, and an oil pump. I got the complete engine minus blower and oiling system.....I even got the E85 carbs...So I will be researching blowers....

I also pulled the rear end out of the lawn ornament, and the Dana has a 4.10 posi...A cast yoke, and a stock stamped steel rear cover...Its getting a spool with 4.10's and a nice support cover aluminum unit, and a billet yoke. The 1/2 studs are also an issue but might have to stay for now.

I also thru some flat black paint on it to keep it from rusting for now...Made a big difference..hopefully dry tomorrow.

And lastly the Duster, never sold it....Still have it, collected all my parts and built a new 400 based engine pictured. Just needs rocker arms, push rods, oil pump and cover....And a good carb or maybe two if someone has a TR they want to part with....I got the new Indy 325's on it..... pump gas....new Bullet cam.

Looks good in black! What broke in the hemi? Must be a real aggressive grind?
Did you sell the other motor from the Duster? Didn't you have a low deck stroker in it before?

Not sure on the Hemi...Thinking broken spring again...not sure until I get it apart. I think it hates that cam...

The last motor in the Duster was a 440/543 high compression engine, and it ran....Fastest engine I have ever had. Sold it to an offer I could not turn down. Had the car sold twice at least....Then it all went quiet....Built a new pump gas 400/512 out of parts I had. Should run very low 6's in the 1/8th still. Predicting 6.10 or better. More cam, better heads...

And the lawn ornament looks a lot better in black....Stuff was starting to rust, had to do somthing, and all my painter buddy's are out of the business' now.

Lot's of irons on the fire for sure, keep on them and good luck! I'd see if Indy has a retrofit roots adapter for the modman.

So I can't find any good pics of one. I like that idea as I can fire up the engine on just one carb and check for issues, and then add the blower, but the bolts that hold the supercharger plate on, how big are they? They big enough to hold a full weight roots blower on there? That is a lot of weight, and its being spun by the crank and seeing all that vibration and torque....I am not sure about that option.

All the projects remind me of my place..We have everything in pieces waiting on parts. Waiting on engine parts led to getting carried away with the truck redo 100%

Re: Updates...W/Pics - 10/13/22 06:23 PM

The T&D rockers I ordered for my 400/512 showed up....OMG what works of art they are....So all I need are now are push rods, and a 1050 carb, and she is done and ready to put in the car...Cross one big project almost off the upgrade list....Just need to re-wire the Duster and add a Holley dash to it and that car is ready for racing next year with brand new engine, slicks, and wiring, ....Maybe re-skin the doors in fiberglass if I get time. I have the skins, but never done it before. Still shooting for 5's...

Pulling the Hemi this week, and already ordered a new cam for it...Gawd knows what broke in the valve train on that thing. But if its another intake spring, I might have to really look at T&D Barton rockers for it as well....That would put a hurting on the budget for the lawn ornament 66 Barracuda...

T&D makes rockers for Comp Cams? Curious, why not 1.6 rockers?

I am going to try and keep at it this year until all my crap is ready for next season......But here is this weeks progress....My new 400/512 is almost done....Needs push rods and oil system....Push rods get ordered Monday, as the measurements have all been done. The oil system we are steeling from the Hemi for now.

Speaking of the Hemi...Its out. my day is booked tomorrow with family stuff, but ti goes to my header guy next to fix up a couple leaks because these are slip fit headers, they won't be anymore after this fix as I think its messing with my AFR a little.....and maybe rebuild an old oil pan....a rod went thru a few years back....

I have an old Braswell dominator if you don’t buy a new one. It was on a 499 low deck.

Re: Updates...W/Pics - 10/31/22 06:51 PM

Not a ton of progress, but even minor progress is moving forward....So my new 400/512 pump gas bracket motor got new ball on ball 3/8" diameter push rods to go with the new T&D rockers & Morrel lifters....Miliodon oil pump showed up and we can steel a few parts off the Hemi to complete it.....The cam in this thing should sound like a beast....Can't wait to see how this little beast runs......Only thing left, is to finish fitting the valvetrain, the oiling system, the brass distributor gear, and a Carb or two....Kinda sucks that i will have to wait so long before we know if it makes more steam than the last one....

According to this website, a 9.42 at 3000lbs is 830hp from the last motor, is that correct?

I did not count them, but I was happy when it was done. I used a tall roughing mill and touched off on the full depth and hit it .050" at a time...Somtimes .100" per pass....So I ran it full depth for each pass.

Yesterday I finished up the second carb, now I am going to work on the motor plate to get the engine lower in the car.

Thanks, I will try to post updates when I have stuff worth posting....You owe me a little lesson on door skinning, loved seeing how you did that.....I have two to do this winter, and would love to get it right the first time....Might have some cool Hemi updates after this weekend.

Re: Updates...W/Pics - 11/13/22 11:08 PM

Pulled the spare Hemi block and heads and trans out of the car...attached the blower motor to my spare trans, and all set in the car. Switched from stamped timing cover to a cast one and I kept cutting the plate down until the motor sat level in the car......It needs an oiling system, a blower intake, and a blower, plus some incidentals....Car needs a lot.....Ready for Zoomies now!

New 512 is pretty much done and ready to go in the Duster.....But the Duster needs a ton of re-wiring and the hood needs TLC....Stole the oil pump and cover off the Hemi and it just needs primed and its ready....Still need a carb, but I think I am going to put my only 4500 1250 on it to start with....
