rocker shafts for crane gold rockers - 09/21/22 08:13 PM

Is there any reason you couldn't run factory rocker shafts w/ a set of Crane gold roller rockers on a big block w/ a mild cam?

OEM stock rocker shafts will gall up on badly with ductile iron rocker with no bushings whiney down
You need to use the proper shafts with most adjustable rocker arms is what I have learned the hard way whiney realcrazy shruggy

I have used them also, but not on stock OEM Mopa shafts shruggy
I think they will gall less on stock shafts but no galling on the shafts recommended by Crane years ago shruggy

I run the old MP alum rockers which were made by Crane (same rockers, except blue w/ a pentastar on them) for years on stock shafts, no problems with wear. Now breakage, thats another issue. MP .590 solid lift cam.

No reason why you "can't" but a few reasons why you "shouldn't"

Stock shafts are thin. They will flex during use. They will also "pinch" as you torque them down - this can cause binding of the rockers Also, once pinched the rockers will be a [censored] to get off the shafts. The stock shafts never got a "finish" that would be satisfactory for the full contact of an aftermarket rocker so. as previously mentioned, galling is almost a certainty. Throw them in the trash and spend the $$ on a decent set of shafts.

OK, that makes sense since the stock rockers are so loose fitting on the shaft. up
