If you're asking about NHRA SS look at their rules online and then call your local division tech line or the national tech department scopetwocents
I used to race a max wedge car in stock and knew several other M.W racers in SO CA that race in SS a long time ago, they had a maximum CC per port rule with stock size valves back then. shruggy
It is always best to go straight to the source in WRITING when getting opinions or interpretations on racing rules twocents work up twocents
I've heard of more than one NHRA racer getting screw around by a "tech" official saying 'I never said that" hence get it in writing up

Only certain heads are legal for each combination. Factory heads, obviously, and whatever replacements have been approved. Some Edelbrock aluminum heads are legal, with a weight penalty, but they require a lot of work ($$$$) to be legal - smaller valves, guides, etc...

In Super Stock, "porting, polishing, welding, epoxying, and acid-porting permitted. Grinding and polishing in combustion chamber permitted."

"Cylinder head must be able to hold combustion chamber, intake and exhaust runner volumes per NHRA Specifications. Any aftermarket steel valve permitted; must maintain stock head and stem size; titanium valves prohibited." "Valve diameter permitted to be +.005-inch or -.015-inch from published NHRA Technical Bulletins."

Basically, stock size valves and OE/NHRA spec port and chamber sizes, plug and valve locations. You can do what you want with that volume. Makes for a lot of work and some interesting port shapes.

Also makes it easy to get 5 figures wrapped up in good set of heads from a top shelf guy. And then there's the valve train...and the intake...

I'm just trying to find out how much performance is left from the factory casting. Bell runs the legal replacement aluminum head. I'm more interested in the iron.

There is a Canadian guy that runs two red Plymouths in Stock and SS with MW engines. He calls it Red Door Racing. I sort of forget his name at the moment. He's on FaceBooger. The 518-M castings are hard to find, and you want the later ones from what I've read on them. Welding up aluminum heads is easier to modify.
