Eric Bells old car, built by Mandella. Its a work of art as are his new ones the 68 SS/AH car(Mazzolinis old car being reworked right now at Hansens) and the AA/SA 64

I thought it was Don Little's old car he raced in SS/JA.

I saw it at Lebanon Valley about two months ago. Sweet car for sure.

Putting a clutch in it like everyone else?

Some of those cars have gone through several notable owners/drivers.
Heck, at first I thought "Jerry Hatch, driving Tom Auger's Challenger", but I guess there are (at least) two that look alike.
The "Tom & Jerry show" is usually back east; Tom has several cars.

Re: Nice Super Stock Challenger - 08/10/22 04:46 AM

Didn't Don Little and Eric Bell both race 1970/1971 Cudas first in stock for Don and SS for Eric?
And didn't they both change to Challengers later?
The first drag race car that I remember Don Little racing was a Roadrunner, maybe a six pack A12 car?
As far as this video and the numbers he is mentioning for RPM on that SS 383 don't jive at all with what Dave Wren and Bob Mazzolini stalled and shifted their SS 383 motors at: in SS confused: shruggy

Don sold the engine to Tom maybe 5 years ago, pretty sure Don still races his car in A/SA or AA/SA with the Hemi.

Don raced another Challenger is Stock and sold it because it was to valuable and built a clone which he races now. The Challenger in the video is a recent purchase and was indeed Eric Bells at one point. Mike also has a D or E/ SA 340 Duster that he recently won the divisional points meet at Lebanon Valley in. I believe he also has or had a Challenger that he ran in Stock at one point. Auger/Hatch also had a D/SA 340 Duster that was real fast and went in the 9s at one point, that car has been sold to long time Mopar racers the Vignogna's and was seen recently at a divisional and open event at Numidia. The car is almost identical to Jerry Bennets Duster from Kentucky both are even purple and are fast!

I have always liked that car. I have built my Challenger for my love of the 70's old super stock and pro stock era classes with a modern twist.

Anything that passes through Bell’s hands is going to be immaculate. Sorry to see Auger selling such great cars during the past few months and will miss seeing them compete with Hatch at the wheel but great to see the Challenger going to someone who will keep it top flight. Anyone wanting to see the top 340 Duster in action needs to attend Indy and see Bennett running for the class Wally. Another example of a VanLant piece that FLIES.

I agree it would be great to see the Vignogna Duster against Bennet at Indy !!! I am just a bracket / index racer but I love Stock and Super Stock Mopars! I talked to Jerry Hatch at the Dutch Classic not long after the Duster ran in the nines .. nice guy and he told me it was a lot of work and not cheap. I think its great that an acquaintance of mines big block Camaro also running in D can't run with the small block Dusters! Everything Van Lant builds flyes he found something in those 340s .. its awesome !!

Isn’t Van Lant the carb guy?

Brad VanLant is much more than a carb guy, he built Bennett’s Duster, does head and complete engines. He also built Mark Lelchook’s Barracuda motor plus others I don’t feel at liberty to divulge (some class racers are secretive about who does their motors). The Duster that Hatch drove was built by Mike Blackstone with some fine touches added by Steve Wann. I talked to Wann about the car at Sonoma years ago just before Auger bought it. Whatever Wann touches is bad fast, was sorry to hear about his shop mishap and him apparently not defending his A/SA crown at Indy this year. But as to the Challenger, that’s a car I always wanted but was always afraid to ask “how much?” I like the security of retaining both kidneys.

Re: Nice Super Stock Challenger - 08/11/22 04:53 PM

Isnt the Duster the Vignonas have now a west coast car originally as well? Pretty sure its the car Steve Wann was driving back in 2013 or so..Then was sold to someone else out here but the name escapes me before it went back out west.
