New Power-Lok Clutches? - 07/10/22 03:25 PM

I ordered new clutches for dana 70 project which came saturday, opened them up and they don't have any clutch material embedded on them and am curious what application these could ever be good for? My old ones have to be as good as P.O,S,'s

Power-Lock units don't have friction material on them like the Trac-loc units do. I've rebuilt a bunch of Power-Lock units with the current plain coated plates with good results.
Make sure you coat each disc and plate with friction modifier when you re-assemble it. Remember to use red Lock-Tite on the threads and I use a spot of ARP lube under the head of the bolts so they don't gall.

I have been working on these for 40 years and the power-loks do have a coating but not like the trac-locs, these clutches are bare steel exactly like they are when they are completely worn out, I have a n.o.s. 60 unit and will just use the clutches out of it for now till I get new ones coming from Cass.

I would love to find an OEM Dana 70 Power Lok for my 1993 W250.

I agree with Gus, all of the Dana and 8.75 power loks I have done hade uncoate steels and black coated Bellevue springs. I usually add .100 to the shim pack reusing the original thin shim.

I'd be interested in seeing pictures if you have a different style clutch pack.

Interesteing. I have never seen a Dodge unit come apart with those in 8.75 or a 60. I would imagine they are interchangeable? I might try a set like that with more than .100" added and see if it turn easier at low speeds. It seems that once I go .100 over the stock shim pack turning gets "tight" for lack of better words.
