Rocker Shaft - 04/30/22 12:13 AM

On a Hemi rocker shaft, what is the proper orientation of the shaft? I’m taking about the oiling holes shown.

Just installed mine last nite, hope I’m right. Groove on bottom, little hole out to adjuster. I did the middle stand first then each stand out to ends. Had head off and on table. I have another set that was already together, ill pull one end off the confirm the position.

I was looking at it and the groove could go towards the center of the head, or away from the center of the head.

But the hole ends up wrong and if turned around groove is on the wrong end. That’s why I put them together on the head, with rocker on the valves.Exaust Rocker lays up against the stand, then the spring, then stand, rocker, spring. Stands on the pins then snug bolt, instake goes spring then rocker working out. Very hard working from either end, stands are tight

If I'm remembering correctly, you shouldn't be able to put the shafts on the wrong way due to the the holes needing to be down and the oil holes will be exposed away from the rocker if you put the shaft on backwards twocents scope
I'm not sure about swapping sides making the shafts different confused
I do know that some of the middle rocker shaft hold downs don't have oil holes in them so they need to be installed correctly on both heads to oil the rocker arms scope wrench up

The FSM has this information in it. Perhaps someone has it digitally stored and can post it.

On R & RB motors, the holes are positioned at the bottom to feed oil to the highest load area on the rocker arm, and if your holes are offset from the hold down bolt holes on the shaft, make sure to orient the small oil feed holes toward the side that best locates these holes closest to the center of the highest load bearing surface (fulcrum) position inside the rocker arm's. On B & RB motors the holes are offset to feed oil to the center of the loaded area of the rocker arm itself, and that translates into pointing the oil holes towards the exhaust side and note the intake side.

In other words, the oil hole goes at the bottom and in the middle of the rocker arm's sweep pattern on the shaft.

No. On a Hemi, the groove goes on the bottom and the hole on the top. Don't force anything. The #2 & #4 rocker stand supply oil so the dowel pins are in a different location to keep you from assembling wrong. Take your time.

i seen stock Hemi rocker arm stands that had only one oil hole in one stand, not two like the later street hemi motors had two, in #2 and #4 stands so they could be installed on either head scope
Make sure the oil hole in the stand is installed over the oil hole in the head, #4 (between cylinders #5&7 on the driver side and between #6 &8 cylinders on the passenger side) stand on both sides scope wrench up

To the OP: If you haven't figured it out yet give me a call at 501-519-7425 and we will face time. I will lay the parts on the table and we will assemble them together. After you learn it it's easy-peasy.

I did a video to show you how to put them together.
