B1 race motors, what camshafts are you using?

I'm building a B1 E85 motor (572 C.I.) with dual 1050 CFM Mark Sullens prepared Dominators on a tunnel ram, I'm planning on using NOS on it also but I have not race or built a B1 motor for myself, let alone with NOS
What LSA and duration at .050 and lobe lift? I'm using a Jesel 1.7 ratio pair shaft rocker arm set up
I have a solid roller camshaft that I bought from Koffels years ago before switching to E 85 and adding NOS to it, probably with less than 600 HP total with two NOS plate kits If it will work I'll try it, if not I'll get a better one or have it reground if possible to make it useable

Cab, i do know nitrous motors like a wider LSA to better use cylinder pressure. B1Wes should know, he had a 540 B1 motor set up for it.

He can do a regrind also. The lobe separation on the core is a limiting factor. I have used plenty of his grinds and never been disappointed.

As I recall, that motor you are building is not a high compression setup, right? What CR is it?
What are the spces on the Koffel's cam you have?
IMO, the "lower" CR will limit the amount of duration I would use. So what a 14-15 CR motor is running may not be a good choice for you.

I didn't pick my cam, it came as a package deal when I bought my B1 original heads from another racer. FWIW:

The UEM piston are suppose to arrive here next Tuesday I ordered them last November
Once I get them I will mock them up to get a deck height and go from there, I'm not going to have that new KB blocked decked as I had all the machine work done on it back east by the shop the Tim at FHO has due his work on those wedge blocks here in the U.S.A when I bought it several years back .
The tech guys at KB say that shelf piston should be near 14.0 to 1 or so with 75 CC heads and a head gasket and the deck height spec I don't remember now
I'll dig out the Koffel cam I have and a Mike Jones solid roller cam I have and maybe mock both of them up and degree them and to check piston the valve clearances with the Jesel 1.7 ratio pared shaft rocker those B1 heads have on them now
I don't want to rev the snout out of that long stroke motor 572 C.I. (4.500x4.500), especially with NOS I'm thinking of shifting it between 7000 and 8000 RPM, it will be ran with NOS in a local no prep series only this summer on 1/8 mile tracks so I need to focus on traction and power management
I may run one small kit (150 HP) on the motor that is in the car now with the new NOS converter to see how the chassis handles the added power before swapping in the bigger motor with the tunnel ram with the dual dominator carbs and two kits of NOS on it

So this isn't the pump gas plan from before. I didn't realize you are buying the production UEM Elite pistons that I am using IC433CAKTS.STD
I ended up with 14.3 CR with my 60cc B1 heads, 4.530 x 0.056 head gasket and 10.725 deck height.
Here are examples with the piston details (ring land volume etc.)

I did change my plans on the KB block to run a local no prep series this summer as long as my Wifes health continues to get better
i had the crank, rods, heads with rockers and the block.
I'm 77 yrs. old and I figure why not try NOS and heads up racing before I get to old

Well duration is gonna depend on ultimate application. My advice make sure you have plenty of split in the duration. I also prefer fairly wide LSA's for B1 stuff.

Cab, best thing you can do is knock the SLR down and it will work a lot better. I run a 1.49 1st with a 4.10 rear. On poor prep you dont need the SLR

The tranny has a 1.80 low gear (Powerglide ) with 4:56 gears in the Mark Williams Dana 60 with 40 spline axles. I tried to buy a 40 spline spool to put in a set of 4:10 gears but no one I could find makes them for 40 spline axles
The current rear tires are Goodyear 33x15x15 , if they don't work, I may step up to a set of 16x16 beadlocks wheels and a set of 33x16x16 tires

Richmond 69-0052-1 4.10 gears work on a 4.56 and up spool.

Strange makes a 4.10 and down 40 spline spool. I have one.

I call them back in 2014 when I was getting ready to change out the 5.87 ratio and no one I contacted made a 40 spline 3 series spool.
I will say that I have had troubles with some of their customer service reps in the past wanting to sell me something different that they had in stock that would work according to them
I let one of their female reps talk me into buying 35 spline conventional drag race axles and spool instead of ordering and having them make the 40 spline light weight hollow axles and spool I really wanted for my new top sportsman Dart

They just started making the spool a couple years ago.

Cab, what do you think of using just 2nd and high gear in a torqueflite combined with a 4.56 or 4.30 gear?
Maybe even 4.10

I'm not sure if the average 727 will live leaving in2nd or 3rd gear
If yours is built for that you should be good, I would look very closely at the reaction times and 60 ft. time when testing using the 2nd or high gear starts
I change the fluid in my S/P Powrglide last year from some magic HP after market expensive drag race fluid to straight Valvoline type F non synthetic and that improved up my reaction times and 60 ft. times both

I had heard that all Richmond gears were being made in China after U.S. Gear bought them out several years back.
I'm not filling lucky so I will pass on buying and testing them unless someone on here has used them , anybody

Have done several 727’s for 2nd gear start cars.

Nothing special to worry about.

One of the cars was 2700 lbs. on the starting line and ran 8.60’s.

I used a set of those gears for years, but I got them about 10 years ago, not sure where they were made. also, I am not hard on gears, run a 1.15 60ft @2200 lbs
