Got it done . 1st national event win - 03/20/22 09:07 PM

Hi all .
As some will have seen the link i put up to this past weekends racing , i raced at the Sunset Strip in Mildura Victoria .
It was the Twilight Nationsls . Penultimate round of this season .
Sunset Strip is a 12 hour drive each way , drove the Plymouth as i dont have a trailer etc . Man the fuel bill wasnt great A$2.28/litre so A$9.28/US gallon . Result well worth it .

I race in Super Street , 10.00/12.99 DYO
1/8mile track .
Very hot weather over 3000da , 90+F , 80+ grains of water for 6 of 8 total passes .
I was footbraking running 6.74, 6.72,6.74,6.72,6.72,6.71,6.70 and final 6.74 on brakes .
First national series christmas tree win

Re: Got it done . 1st national event win - 03/21/22 08:48 PM

thanks a lot everyone .

now a bit of a rundown .
Class is NO box , and i was using my footbrake trans leaving @ 1600 RPM using a count for the tree .So i was like 0.080 then 0.090. But semi was 0.016 .
Close races well thats where top qualifying came in handy with 14 cars and 4 rounds eliminations . 1st round opponent redlit i ran 0.001 under . 2nd round took the bye . Semi , opponent broke in burnout ran 6.70 on a 6.69 , final went 0.020 light hard on brakes for a 6.74 on a 6.70 dial .
Finals opponent was ex Australian #1 in class who races a 64(?) Nova wagon - like Jegs but yellow .
Event ran 5PM-10.30PM Friday , 3.30PM - 10.30PM Saturday . So i didnt actually eat/buy food at the track . Took stuff with me .
The track is in the middle of the Mallee scrub about 6 miles out of town , 10 minute drive , so biggest issues are dust and flies - lots of flies .
Technical issues . Well suddenly someone didnt like my helmet back rest , meets requirements but they dont like it . So i will fab another , in fact design popped into my head while in staging lanes for final .

Downsides .
Fuel price jumped the week before from $1.90/L to $2.30/L average . Car only gets about 10MPG and its over 600 miles each way . So stop about every 3 hrs .
I must be getting old as my ar$e is still sore from the drive , still have bench seat .
BIGGEST - transmission failed 100miles from home and had to get towed . Transmission was full of neutrals . Pulled trans yesterday afternoon , oil pump drive lugs sheared off and ground to paste metal everywhere . So i guess A&A big lug pump is in order .

I have a rebuilt transbrake trans , just waiting for A1 to refinish the converter and send back . Now would be a good time .

Am I reading this right?….. DROVE a 10 second car 12 hrs to and from an event!? And oh by the way…. WON THE EVENT!!!

Dude! That is one heck of an accomplishment. A testament to your dedication, patience, driving skill, and car building skill all rolled into one! Congrats Tex!

Thank you everyone . For the support and encouragement
Currently footbrake trans is out with converter away . Waiting on A1 to finish/return my transbrake vert . Otherwise may footbrake the transbrake transmission with footbrake vert . Only track champ rounds now till july/august . Hopefuly a run interstate then to a track i haven't raced in Queensland . Thats about 16hrs trip . At least i can then strip and service this trans in a couple of weeks . At least fuel has dropped a little locally , $2.42 to $2.29 per litre 🤣
