I would call the company that made the fuel.

Probably not. Depends how it was stored but 5 years is a really long time for gas. I wouldn't run it in a race engine, might work okay if you mix it with pump gas in a hot rod.

2 years is the stated shelf life for unopened VP fuel, some have gotten away with longer of course, but 5 years??? I agree with mixing it with fresh pump gas and burning it in more of a driver.

We just tried to run a race engine on the dyno with 2 year old race gas. The engine ran okay but sounded soft and didn't make good power so we decided to find fresh fuel. The engine picked up 100 hp with new fuel and sounded much crisper. So bad race fuel works, but it doesn't make power. When pump gas goes bad the engine usually won't even run, race fuel is more stable than that but it still degrades.

If it was air tight, looks good and smells good it should be fine.
I found a sealed jug hiding on top shelf of my garage that I stuck up there ten years
before during a “clean up day”. I mixed It with fresh stuff and used it. Car ran exactly the same

Me thinks you got LUCKY bow shruggy
I've had race go bad in a 55 gallon drum that I kept in a shed out of the sunlight under a big shade tree in SO CA desert, it went bad in less than 3 months using a hydrometer checking the specific gravity before each race, I lost 30 gallons of it rant shruggy scope up

We just ran some 3-1/2 year old VP C11 on the dyno (from the sealed can) and it ran great. It actually made a tick more power than some other fresh race fuel, so I'd say it wasn't degraded at all. I'd say open it, make sure you don't smell any varnish, and run it. You could always pour a sample out to see if the color changed.

If the fuel isn't oxygenated and it's in a sealed can, I've heard of people running 5+ year old VP fuel without issues. Without access to air or moisture, it can't really react with anything. VP's official stance is it can last up to two years, but their distributors who handle it often will tell you it can go much longer (no guarantees, of course).
