Hi guys is there a rule of thumb When it comes to adjusting your seat in your car in relation to the steering wheel?????

What are the pros and cons and how is your car set up ?

Make it comfortable for you to drive, not to close and not tot to far back or to low or to high
My current S/P tube chassis Cuda was built for a big guy, 6ft 6 inch and 325 lbs. I haven't moved or change the seat due to not wanting to keep the car, stupid me

A lot of times the angle of the seat is dictated by the roll bar and wheel tubs if your needing all the room you can get....Seats are taller these days, and I am finding they don't fit in cars with older roll cages so easy....

Every car is different. Every driver is different. Some are tall, some are short. Some want to be up on the wheel, others away from it. Some cars the main hoop is low and the seat needs to be lowered and/or laid back to get the drivers head under it.

I try to go for low, laid back a bit and away from the wheel. Get you under the main hoop, get your 200+ lbs of dead weight lower and further back in the car, easier to get in and out if the wheel/column is away from the seat.

Driver needs to be comfortable, inside the cage, able to reach the switches and controls easily, get in and out without snagging everything, and see out.

THE more comfortable you are... the better you will drive...
Everything is adjustable up to a certain point. IF building a new car, make it like you want it, if you bought someone elses car....make it like you want it.... It will go a long way to making good passes when you are perfectly at ease in the car

Comfort,comfort, comfort......Safety of course is important but as far as seating position you need to be comfortable. You need to be comfortable in the car period. I just sold an ex pro stock car because we just could not make it comfortable for me. The curse of being a tall guy I guess.

When you do set your car up to suit the driver, make sure the driver is fully suited, including helmet, gloves & boots. When mounting things like shifter, delay box, switches, gauges & co2 bottles, the driver should also be fully suited and belted in. My car is a little difficult to get into, but once I'm in there, it's more comfortable than being in my recliner. (BUT, I'm 6'2", 255 with bad knees & a lot of candles on my cake!)

my car i guess was set up for a tall guy.but the seat is on the floor.so i sit on a pillow

Raise the seat and get rid of the pillow now so you don't get your back hurt in a head on wreck or hitting the guard rail hard
You don't want your body to move in a wreck, not at ALL
