You can't compare the Indy/Dove aluminum rockers with the Indy Chromoly Hemi rockers. twocents

Whoever did the engine, did a piss poor assembly job from looking at the few photos. I would double check that all the stands are of the same heights, etc. The rockers definitely weren't set up correctly.

Can’t really blame the rocker for failing on that one.

Whoever put the valvetrain together wasn't paying attention. Better pull the whole engine apart and check everything.

Yes I agree it needs to come out. Your rocker tip alignment is whack. MOST likely due to a pushrod rubbing problem that is common to those rockers. Instead of grinding for clearance they just moved the tip halfway off the valve. You need lash caps as well from the looks of it, again fairly common on hemi engines. From the looks of it you most likely got lucky that it did not drop a valve. Todd

Dodged a bullet, could have been much, much worse.

Who knows what else is messed up?

Tear the whole thing down and start over.

There was a GTO with a fresh rebuilt 400 at the shop the other day. Owner was complaining about the engine making noise. Turns out the engine builder installed the wrong spark plugs (3/4 reach rather than 3/8 reach) and the tips of the plugs had hit the valves. The valves got dinged up, the pushrods got bent, the cam got wiped out and the whole motor needed to be torn down and rebuilt since it was full of cast iron dust. Moral of the story is that all it takes is one small thing to be wrong and an engine will start to self destruct.
