DLC coatings, possible uses?

DLC coatings are showing up on more and more parts. I just bought a set of piston pins DLC coated. Now there is a post about lifters. Could DLC find its' way onto piston skirts, crank journals, rocker shafts,. Other than cost , what limits it's use?
One area that I would love to see it is in rocker arm shafts. A DLC coated shaft in my Jesel paired rockers and a bronze bushing, with a large hole in the top of the rocker body for splash oiling. Even with limited oiling it might work well in a drag application. One less set of needle bearings to end up in the oil pump!!

You need to talk to NASCAR guys rather than drag racers. NASCAR guys coat the wheel bearings and all sorts of stuff like that. Basically anything that has sliding or rolling friction gets some sort of coating including gears, bearings, shafts, etc.

Leno used DLC on the cam followers in his Pontiac Firebird Sprint with OHC six.

The intake valves on my -1 motor project are CrN coated which is another slick coating. It is very hard although it is abradable.

The base material needs to be hard and possess very good compressive strength. Base materials like aluminium, titanium and some steels wouldn't be suitable.

Jesel offers the DLC coating on their Hemi rocker shafts for Top Fuel from memory, or at least they used to.

Is that the same as this stuff?

That looks like some amazing stuff for gears and roller bearing cups to reduce heat generated by friction

I looked this coating up and I see where some companies coat cutting tools with it to reduce heat and wear. Also lots of firearm parts can be coated too like barrel slides and bushings on the actions. I can see a possible opportunity to retirement income

Different stuff best I can tell, DLC is applied with plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition from what I have read. A lot of cutting tool coatings are done in the same way.
