Anyone recognize this guy?

Anyone recognize this guy? - 12/06/21 08:59 AM

We went to Clay and Rosie Kossuth's Annual Christmas Party Saturday.

Although he's not a Mopar guy, does anyone recognize this racing legend?

He's sitting in the drivers seat of Clay's 65 Altered Wheelbase Coronet Max Attack II.

After the main crowd had left the party I sat and listened to him and Clay talk about the old days.

Later I talked with him just a little and He's one of the nicest friendliest guys that I think that I've ever met.

Arnie the Framer Beswick. Fantastic guy and a true legend. He signed my dash years ago when I hit the 8 then he gave both of my boys Tameless Tiger matchbox cars.

I usually make the party, but this year the little woman wanted to go to Branson and see the Christmas lights, so I missed it. Few years ago, Arnnie came to the NSS Inc. spring meeting, and told stories for several hours. He has a very clear mind and I really enjoyed listening to the old days. It is something to hear about how much people enjoyed drag racing, and the passion people like Arnnie still have for it. Back in the day you could build a car for a reasonable amount of money, and if you had the passion even make a living out of it. And just think, you had drag strips all over the country with tons of people wanting to see super stock cars that ran 12 seconds in the 1/4. Now cars running in the 8's bring a yawn, and a lot of the events I go to the stands are almost empty.

I'm glad to see he's still around and active. Super-friendly guy. Met him decades ago when my buddy (former A/FX & FC racer) and I went to a nostalgia race.
We ended up helping crew the Tiger a bit, in between joking around and trying to find stuff in his trailer.
He worked his butt off and seemed absolutely fearless.
I remember him backing the car up after a long burnout at what looked like 40 MPH, straight as an arrow.

Clay and Rosie posted about the party on Facebook starting about a month ago and me along with others had shared it.
Facebook's sucky algorithm that decided what show up in your feed makes it hard to see some of the stuff that you would really want to see.

It's always the first Saturday in December every year.
They've been doing it for close to 20 years now other than last year (covid, Franklin county said no gatherings).

They roast a whole hog and deep fry about 14 turkeys and everyone else brings sides and desserts.

Met him once at Union Grove about 20-years ago and took a few pics with him and car, but can't find them at the moment. Super nice guy and true ambassador for the sport and community. Gave me a couple t-shirts that he refused to let me pay for.

My Dad took me to Alton, Il, around 1963. Arnie was match racing Kelly Chadwick, and Big was match racing The Golden Greek. We were shocked at the spectacle! Dad was the greatest.
