Dead Pilots Society! - 11/16/21 09:29 AM

Not what you might think and just a play on the Robin Williams film.

''An English teacher in America trying to educate outside the norm''

I had some wonderful teachers who despite my 'rebellious nature', helped me immensely...

Sorry went 'off track' a bit there, as I saw a long article on 'Dead Pilots'!

Not a second World war epic saga, just cylinder heads and concentric seats...

I have always used a Black and Decker 'VIBRO CENTRC' which seems to make folks chuckle and blush... blush

Its a DEAD PILOT system and works well for me.
My Boss uses (used) a Serdi (magnabase) for his head work.

The article goes on to say that the DP system is 100 years old and does not work??? spank

Oh well for all you folks who can afford a LIVE PILOT system, best wishes from a DYNOSNORE...

I'm still a fully paid up member of the 'DEAD PILOTS SOCIETY'... Santa5
And a special thanks to my Metalwork teacher! (saved my life in many ways) GOD BLESS HIM... Pengrims
If he is still here then Happy Christmas Mr. Hockley... Santa3

Dynosnore John is alone in the world of seating valves... Santa5

I did heads years ago with a Sioux setup like the B&D in the OP's post. Buddy of mine had it and the valve facer too. The machines had come out of a shop my Dad worked at in the 40's and 50's.

Nice set-up B1...

I had access to a full V8 engine workshop for many years and now its gone, its back to the 'grind-stones' lol... stirthepot

I would do all the 'rough work' with the B&D and finish with the SERDI.

But I found a newish 'DP' with only 0.001 of wear so I'm 'back in business again... luck drumhit drinking

Nice ones guys!

Once I have spent a week (or two) porting and polishing there ain't much left of the 'seat area'...

You can do five angles around the seat but 'extreme porting' gets rid of most of what's there.

Some ports you see are 90-45-0 degrees and they seem to work ok.

To me its got to be 15-30-45-60-75, pretty standard fair methinks?

I'm guessing a 1mm intake 45* seat, with a 1mm 30* and 60* either side.

Probably double that, for the exhaust up to 2mm... blah

Most of the hp cutters are doing something in the 35-39 above the 45.

Wow B1 that's good info thanks!

35 to 39 degrees, very shallow out of the seat, WICKED!

Or into the seat if its exhaust lol... fan
