Oil ring wiper end gap?

Oil ring wiper end gap? - 10/15/21 10:37 PM

I have a 588ci Indy Maxx block with 4.5in bore.
I'm freshening my motor and it was suggested to me
a oil wiper ring end gap of .015 to .060 witch seems to me
to be a wide range.

I am running nitrous (150 to 300) shot. It has been to
1100hp and should hit 1200hp with this set of upgrades.

My question to you guys is: What do you suggest shruggy and
what are you running?

the oil ring wipers are way down on the pistons, a long way away from the combustion chamber heat work
I'm thinking around .030 to a max 0f .050 on them based on conversations I've had in the past with a NOS racer that went way fast with a big bore and short stroke motor bigger than yours is now.
I think he went 7.20 at 180+ MPH with NOS at 2900 lbs. on a legal outlaw 10.5 tire back then, 15+ yrs. ago shruggy

Thanx Cab. I was thinking around .020 to .035 I guess I'm abit tight. They do say I squeak
when I walk LoL.
How's Oregon treating you these days?

Oregon living is better than SO CA up
You know the old saying about race motors and the ring end gaps, if they are to wide only you will know that, if they are to tight everybody at the track will know about that work up
I'm a firm believer in a lot looser is way better than a tiny bit to tight on almost every clearance in our motors up work wrench scope shruggy

I truly believe you right.
I had to go through the motor because it beat up a few pushrods.
I've sent them all back to manton to be checked and repaired or
replaced.

I spent a week or so helping Jim Hale with his two cars, that was
interesting LoL.
