Anyone racing their 1320 Challenger? - 10/04/21 02:14 AM

I bought a 1320 Challenger in July. Starting to cool off and I am taking it to the track some. Anyone else racing theirs?

Not a 1320 but I have a T/A 392, going to try to make the Lone star Mopar fest in Baytown Tx this coming weekend, got my Drag radials on & waiting

Bought mine in May - as soon as I got to 500 miles it was on the track runs 12.00's at 114mph - no mods - its a blast to run the NMCA events! - They do not like the heat or humid air and will slow quite a bit

Nice! I will look for you there. I can't race in it but will do some testing during the "fun runs". Look for a blue 1994 Dakota!

IF I make it will just do the fun runs, I MIGHT take the 68 Charger instead.

I'm match racing a pal of mine who has one on Saturday at Keystone, best of three. Kaleb has gone 11.60s with his, I generally run around 10.90, 11 flat with my 65 Dodge Hemi Nostalgia Super Stock. My 65 is probably one of the most genuine equipped Nostalgia cars in the country....426 cubic inches, 11 to one compression, ancient Racer Brown cam, cross ram, "J" converter, and Super Stock Springs. No technology newer than about 1969, when I bought it. It's kind of an old vs new thing for a deal Keystone calls "Grudgement Day"....it will be fun. I'm going to spot him .6, it is for grins. He's a good kid, and it seems to have generated a lot of interest! Kaleb was runnerup this year at the NMCA "Hemi Shootout" for Gen III Hemis in Norwalk, Ohio. It will be fun!

Good to see Mopars there besides the Gen3 ones (which are nice also). up

I happened to race alongside one about a year ago. He ran 11.98 @ 114.07 mph. I don’t know if it was bone stock or not, but i thought it may be.

I haven’t got to run the 1/4 mile yet. My best 1/8 mile is a 7.64 at 92 mph.

I was pitted next to one at the Moparty. The guy that owned it said it had been 11.52 IIRC, it had a single Kirkey seat and no carpet. He said the engine was stock, no tune.

I don’t put much faith in the calculators. My
2018 Mustang ran a 11.92 with a 7.78 1/8th.

Pretty sure that one is from Texas.

Raced my 1320 at the Mopar event in Lebanon Valley this fall. I drove 3 hours to get there and ran a 12.16 first run down the track. The car is completely stock with full interior. I am impressed! I will be an old muscle car until I die but, the new iron is hard to beat! This kind of performance with a warrantee and 23MPG to boot. One thing I found was that every other run after the first run the car lost a tenth. However, my last run of the day the car picked back up after a long cool down period. Anybody else have the same experience?

Yes the cars are very heat sensitive. I have a small fan that I cool the intake down between rounds, seems to help. I think an e85 conversion would help consistency a lot. How are your reaction times?

Re: Anyone racing their 1320 Challenger? - 10/11/21 11:30 PM

Wow, they are all over the map. I found that I had to try and leave between the second and third bulb! If I left on the third bulb my lights were in the 200 range. I would go red on the second bulb but, going between the two reaction times were in the 20's. This fly by wire thing is crazy. I thought that this car would be a deadly bracket beast however, I see that it would not be that simple.

i have always wondered how the "drive by wire" gas pedals reacted when used, especially at the strip.
is there a "tune" available to make this system react faster ?

supposedly the pedal commander solves the issue, it cleans the electrical pulse from the pedal to throttle body.

i have heard from some that it is hocus pokus and others swear by them .

i have not tried anything

I sure like street racing my 1320. its so fun

I have a friend with a 1320 and he tried a Pedal Commander or something similar and was not impressed.

Re: Anyone racing their 1320 Challenger? - 10/12/21 08:07 PM

The cars are tunable if you want to void the warranty - reprogramming the ECM is available to pick up a few ponies - The peddle commander to me seams a little smoke and mirrors - possible it works I just don't see it - as I tried one on my Nissan TitanXD Cummins .and really did not notice any real improvement.in response.

With the 1320 -its all about finding the right method for launch - I have found the foot braking at 1500 RPM all setting to drag mode and 18lbs of air in the tires - I still cannot get the hang of the trans brake or the launce controller - I am not that coordinated!

Overall its a 12.0 car maybe a 11.90 with good air - but for an off the showroom floor naturally aspirated car - its a blast to drive! I will be modifying it extensively at some point cam, heads, headers exhaust - Its not a daily driver - I bought it as a toy

Re: Anyone racing their 1320 Challenger? - 10/13/21 07:29 PM

you are 100% on that Cab!!!!
so far so good on that one.

I have never tried a pedal commander, I have heard good and bad, no real life experience.

I agree on the trans brake its complicated, i play with it as much as i can. I find its helpful to put a sticky note on the display center to help remind me. i am not the smartest as well.

I had big plans for mine until i had my friend run my vin thru the build register and found I have a one of one 2020 1320. so that bummed me out and allows my wife to continue to say no to any mods!!! Maybe when i hit 5000 miles on it in the next 10 years she will give me the green light

LOL

I still love to drive this car
