MOPAR POWER IN FORDS OR GM

MOPAR POWER IN FORDS OR GM - 09/20/21 01:19 AM

As most know finding a Mopar for street or strip to build is way too expensive either building from the ground up or purchasing outright. Going thru the S&W catalogue, there are many kits for either GM into GM or Ford into GM. Where does the overall sizing of the Mopar SB or BB motors compare to GM motors or Fords for transplanting. I've come across so many Ford Ranger during the summer that need motors and the bodies are in great shape. I've also have enough SB and RB parts to build 3 more motors. I've always wanted to show up and the track Ford and GM "ONLY" days and stir the pot. Winter is coming so now's the time to start preparing.

Mustangs are getting pricey but you can stuff anything in them easily. A friend of mine had one with a big block Chevrolet and it was easier to service than an other friends mustang with a 351W based engine.

This was at drag week this week, loved it! Averaged 8.57 for the week!

Neither of the Mopar BB or SB engines are great swap candidates which is why they don't get swapped into a lot of stuff. The SB engine is really long when the water pump is included and the BB has an odd center sump oil pan. The BB usually fits better with the rear sump truck pan, but the rear sump pan isn't super popular. The ear motor mounts also aren't as easy to work with as some of the other brands. The BB does accept a motor plate really well so it will go into a race car fairly easily but headers can be a pain.

In high school my friend had a 59 Chevy Apache Pickup with a 440 Chrysler power plant. His neighbor gave it to him because my friend would mow his lawns every week for free. I only saw it once before his Dad made him sell it because it was "too fast for a kid."

I'm helping a buddy on a 88 Ranger with s 351W/C-4/9". The heater box takes up a lot of room at the firewall, but on a race truck you could do away with it.

Buddy of mine did a later model Ranger. He cut the front clip off and replaced it with the clip from a Fox body. Made things a lot easier and cut off a bunch of weight.

There are quite a few Hemi engines in pro-built tube chassis cars on Street Outlaws and Pro-Mod classes. I have installed a 440 in a 75 VW Beetle and 54 Nash for my brother-in-law about 20 years ago
We were going to put the 440 in a Nash Metro but is was going to be too much fab work with steering shaft, starter, and headers all fighting for space.
