strength of an OEM dana carrier and gear

i have a low mileage dana 60 carrier(sure grip) and oem 354 gear, both from an under 20k mileage Bbody automatic car. they are in a moser housing with moser axles.
how much power can these handle in a 3600lbs car in a drag strip situation ?

Stock gears don't like a lot of shock loads, like sidestepping a stiff clutch at high rpm, or hi rpm transbrake launches. They will live for A while. A stock dana can handle a LOT of off idle or low rpm launches. So take it easy on the launchs, or buy a spool, 35 spline race axles, and pro gears.
I had a posi go away at the track many years ago. I pulled the posi out, put a shim in it made out of a coffee can lid, wholla! Locker! Just be carefull the halves of the locker touch when you bolt it together. I put two shims in, had to remove one and all was great.

How much power are you making? Some strong components you have

Mine is a stock housing and 3.54 gears with a Dr Diff spool in a 3,700 lbs. car.

It's been 1.36 60 ft. and sees a lot of street miles. Footbrake, though.

What year Mopar was your rear end out of?
23 spline early axles or the later 35 spline used in 1970 and 1971 cars?
I would look at replacing the driver side carrier cap with a billet steel cap first

I would think it depends on the tires, radials are dead hook, bias slicks are easier on parts, an anvil will break eventually. With that said I can’t see a problem with that setup (4 pinion type). This was the go to rear long before the 9” became popular with gear choices. BTW a 9” inch is not any better TILL you get the aftermarket hd parts.

I had a 1978 F250 Dana 60 that I got with mystery miles and history. I used the stock 3.54 gear from the junk yard doner for about 5 years with a Dr. Diff spool before it started making noise and I replaced it this spring.

3740lbs with me in it, 275/60 dragradial, off the transbrake every pass. Street/strip use.. It's been a best of 1.37 60ft.
