Strange Engineering, [censored]! - 09/04/21 04:51 AM
I'm getting ready for Moparty at Bowling Green in a couple weeks and needed to run my car to see how the new Thumper carb runs and do some tuning. The car has a Strange S-60 in it that's about ten years old. After loading the car on the trailer I go in the shop to get my jet kit and air pan and there's a puddle of gear oil where the right right rear tire sat, okay the seal is bad. I called Strange to order a couple seals only to find out they don't sell them. [censored], you build and sell rear ends but don't sell the parts to service them? Horse $hit! I sent Cass a e-mail, hopefully he can fix me up.
To add to that the over charging issue that I thought I had fixed is back. When I got home tonight I backed the trailer up to the shop to unload in the AM and noticed a wet spot, yep friggin battery acid dripping from one of the hold down bolts that come through the trunk floor. Now the battery and box have to come out and everything washed down and neutralized with baking soda...... again. I had this issue last year and Powermaster replaced my alternator at a reduced price. This never happens when driving it on the street only when its been to the strip and tonight is the first time its been to the track this year. Could the battery be bad and still start the car fine? I did a load test last year when I had the problem and it checks good. I hate to put a disconnect on the alternator but may have to. Time is not on my side to get it fixed before BG as my wife and I are going on vacation the week BG starts and will not be back til Thursday and I have to load up on Friday Am to head out. Plus, I work 12 hour shifts and have to work every day until we leave for vacation. It sure would be handy to be wealthy enough that I didn't have to work. LOL
On a positive note, the car ran good and Dom's carb was jetted pretty much spot on. Looking at the afr's I thought it may be a touch lean so I changed the secondary's to the larger jets he sent and it lost a little mph. It ran 6.31 @ 108.69 with a 1.3830 60' through the mufflers before the jet change. After the jet change it ran 6.35 @ 108.29 with a 1.3803 60' through the mufflers. I removed the exhaust and it ran 6.28 @ 109.21 with a 1.3839 60'. The last pass I tried the trans brake, two step set at 4200, instant smoke. The last time out the car was making a hard move to the left so I readjusted the Cal-Tracs, tonight it went straight as a string.
Sorry for the rant but I'm being forced to work a bunch of overtime, time that I need to be home to get my junk fixed and right now time isn't on my side. I keep remind myself it could always be worse.
