LM-2 burned a resistor inside 3 months old.

I was just warming the car in the garage checking things and sparks came from the scanner tool part and I opened it up and a resistor had exploded.There may be more wrong with the tool but I am sending it in to be fixed and find out.You guys that have this tool may run into this problem or have had this problem.The resistor may only cost .50cents.

That's a Tantalum capacitor, they are polarity conscious.

I was using the cigarette lighter power adaptor so IDK if it can get shorted inside.

I bought a LM-2 to use for my 66 coronet. I had one O2 sensor that would not work right off the bat, so I called summit and they said it had a one year warranty.
I just sent the old one back and they sent a new one out. I have not used it yet but hopefully all goes well with it.

I could drive there to summit in 45 minutes but I don't need any other parts or in a hurry.I hope yours is good for a long time using it.

Is the top, two pin dark coloured block the I/P for the power supply? (I'm guessing it is since it's the only two pin socket). You may need to check the polarity of your cig lighter.
Something tells me in the dark recesses of my mind, that they are wired reverse to what most manufacturers of cig lighter PSU adapters expect. But I could be wrong .

You are correct, it's labelled Power. Interesting that there appears to be a reverse-polarity protection diode beside it. If the OP has been using the same cigarette lighter plug for three months, it probably isn't a case of reverse polarity.

That capacitor, along with two others, a jumper and a resistor are post-production modifications.

I have been using the same power port without trouble and yes the left plug is power but is a 4 prong.

I got a new LM-2 replacement free from Auto Meter in the mail today.
