Best Hyd Cam Manf. Whos your choice? - 07/21/21 01:25 PM

Thought about doing a poll but way too many choices.

Wondering what manufactures are favored by the engine builders here? RE: hydraulic flat tappet cams for quality, availability, variety customer service support. Im not asking anything about application or use or prfile. just brand preference. Thanks Henry

I didn't go with a hydraulic but I switched over from Comp to Howards this time around and I'm very happy with the SFT I have. Good power and smooth break-in procedure and it's been about 1100 street miles and it's nice and quiet with with tight lash. I wouldn't hesitate to install another Howards cam twocents

I'm by no means an "engine builder" but do help my dad assemble the engines we run. We've used Mopar Performance, Comp and Lunati cams. We ran hydraulic for years and in the past 6-7 years have starting to switch to mechanical flat tappets. I only remember 1 issue with a cam and lifter going bad and that was an older cam that prob had 30 years of abuse on it.

I called Bullet , gave them my info and they ground me a cam that does exactly what I wanted.
a 408 that makes 492 lb ft and 492 h.p. with a flat torque curve that is over 400 lb.ft from 2500 on up.
I could have eeked another 8 h.p. with carb tuning , and been able to say 500 , but I was sharing the day on the pump with a buddy and didn't want to leave him short of time.
It was also on a hot , humid day , so it is right about the conditions where it will be driven in.
The cam is just part of the combination , but this is the second they have done for me ..........the other was a solid roller for a 48 degree deal , and I am very happy with both.

Here's an additional suggestion, verify that you actually got the lobes that your cam card says it is.......no matter what brand you end up going with.
