Another new addition.....

Another new addition..... - 07/20/21 03:07 PM

Well I showed the Savoy off last week so this week its time for the second new addition. I know some dont do FB so Ill post it up here too. I have been looking on and off for a Pro Stock Dakota for a LONG time. It has always been and issue of not enough funds or nothing available. Well this time I found two one got sold out from under me and the other we just could not strike a deal on as I was not interested in the BBC it came with and the owner did not want to separate the car. So back to the drawing board. I have known about this truck for awhilebut its never been on a track or driven for that matter. It has been a show truck since it was originally built. It has a 6.0 cert chassis built by Wizzard Racecars. Its very nicely done and anyone familiar with their stuff could attest they do killer and unusual stuff. Like the Pro Mod Hearse or more recently the Lincoln Zephyr Pro mod. This truck is a real Dakota, steel with a vin still has a fair amount of the stock interior even the power windows. The previous owner would not sell it as a roller either so I got it T/K. It essentially has a new Hemi and torqueflite in it. It has been driven around car shows and in and out of a trailer at shows. Maybe 10-15 miles on it since built. It will NOT be staying in the truck. I purchased it to go back to bracket racing and .90 stuff, basically back where I belong and back to having fun at the track rather than working at the track. We have a LOT of work to do to make her a racecar for sure. She aint light either at 3260 either. But we will see how much we can knock out of her. Like the diesel sized radiator(but it might stay)and those what feel like 200+ lb doors smile Not sure if trying to race a full size Dakota with a 130" wheelbase is a bright idea but I'm gonna try. Anyway enjoy and love to hear the feedback. BTW anyone want a Hemi and TF smile

That thing is sweet. Glad your finally gonna stretch her legs on the strip instead of putzing around car shows.

Re: Another new addition..... - 07/20/21 07:52 PM

Congrats! I bought a Dakota R/T new in 2000. Ya! The inside of the cab looks like they retained a lot of the factory stuff.

What's in the Hemi and what are you asking for it?

Re: Another new addition..... - 07/20/21 08:26 PM

The Hemi looks like a serious piece on the outside. Any idea if the internals are up to the task? If the truck was built as a show piece you never know how serious of a build it was. Sounds like the chassis was done correctly so maybe the drivetrain was too. All depends on who did the build and what they were trying to do.

That is a beautiful truck. What is your plan for it? motor, trans, 8/9/10.90?

Very nicely built truck up

Re: Another new addition..... - 07/21/21 12:58 AM

The engine was built by Larry Meaux, a name many should know but likely don't. He was known for building some fast Comp and SS, to include NHRA Championship powerplants over they years but he is also is the brain power and inventor of Pipemax program. Software used for designing headers on race cars. Pretty smart guy. So to answer that question it is actually a really nice piece that made 948@7100 with only 12.5-1 compression and a fairly mild camshaft. All the internals are good stuff Mopar Pre World mega block, Diamond pistons, Comp roller, Jesel belt drive etc. So I am sure it is a solid 8 second piece as it sits, even as a piglet. Intake comes with a Dominator top as well as the X ram deal. If no one ends up buying it it will likely find its way into the 64 Savoy.

I will likely go back to S/ST as this car is not lite at all. Had fun in the class and time to go back to where i belong. Not saying I wont try S/C or S/G on occasion but S/ST and brackets will be the focus. Like to have it go as fast as the Cuda did at least but I think this is at an aero disadvantage over the Cuda for sure. Shes a bit wide but we will hopefully be able to get it to S/St weight and get its weight bias a lot better. Would like to sell the drivetrain and put a Predator or PSO piece in it. If not I have a nice B1 that's a 4 digit deal I can use.

It was built as a show pooch with the intention of racing it later. The original owner kinda outgrew the truck, literally. It has a 28" F/C cage oh yeah and a swing away column. One of the things I have to fix is the column position, its a bit high for me. But I can fit nice and comfy and see everything well. He never got around to hitting the racetrack and it had been sitting for a few years since being "retired" from the show arena. I have already made some changes to include the beadlocks but a lot more to do.

Thanks for all the kind words. We will be starting on it here this fall. Have some family stuff going on that will require a lot of time the remainder of this year. But we will make her a nice racecar if you can make a 130" wheelbase 4 link car work smile

Re: Another new addition..... - 07/21/21 01:07 AM

I like it.
That Hemi converted to a single carb and throttle stop setup should be fine for you. But you know what engine you want for throttle stop racing.
The 727 trans has no place in your racing! LOL

Good Luck setting up both the chassis and engine combo for your needs. Quality build to start should be helpful.

Re: Another new addition..... - 07/21/21 01:56 AM

Al, wasn’t that truck for sale years ago on racing junk? I think I remember seeing it on racing junk.

There was an old pro-stock dakota race truck for sale in Florida. The guy had two of them. He parked one and was racing one. That was around the first of the year. I believe it had a 632 Brodix in it.

You should be able to loose a fair amount of weight once you get it where you want it. You will have to keep the Mopar world up to date as you start the renovation.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: Another new addition..... - 07/21/21 01:30 PM

JIm, you are correct the TF has no place where I plan to race, IMO neither does the hemi. She's really heavy already and that iron block Hemi aint helping not to mention she's a fair amount short of where I want to be on HP for sure.

Wyoming- It was advertised a few places a few years ago and was not sold, and then put in the corner of the shop to stay for awhile. The second owner traded a couple street rods for it with intentions of bracket racing it. Put new tires on it in 2016 added a delay box and then it got pushed to the corner again. They are somewhat famous folks in the New Orleans area who run Pro Mod/TS stuff and really fast street car stuff. Lets just say their name in on a car many people watch on TV all the time. One reason they didnt want the engine, as he told me most everything we have is 959" so no need for a baby engine smile I learned about it from another TV guy originally who mentioned it could likely be purchased. Was not advertised anywhere for sale and neither was the Savoy.

Doug and T yes they make a nice pair. Not sure they go along with the others honestly but we will make them both better than when found by me. Maybe the blue will stay maybe it wont have not decided and paint is the easy part.

That's a really good looking ride. I would at least give it a shot or two after going over it before I decided to change anything. You get a better idea of what it and you need after a few outings.

Jess I am more than ready to go back for sure. Hopefully we can be ready the beginning of 2022. Finally got the trans case and bell after 4 months of waiting. So we can at least start working on the transformation from the Hemi to something that makes some more power.

Thanks for the kudos on the new hot rod. Anxious to get started but still have to make life things going on to make much headway til fall.. We are in the process of moving back to Vegas now so things are quite chaotic for us currently. Long story but its a covid related family thing and time for us to take over care of the wifes folks. So we need to be closer to them and they have no desire to be near the cold. So our Ohio adventure is ending pretty much before it even started. Wish I could have done and seen more but life happens.

Re: Another new addition..... - 02/07/22 05:34 PM

Tried to buy that truck a number of times over the last 10 years. Seller never wanted to sell, and he only ran it a couple of times. I have a truck now so I'll pass at the current price. Still wearing the Eaton paint job from two decades ago. FWIW I know where the trailer they got from Mopar is sitting and has been for a long time.

Re: Another new addition..... - 02/07/22 07:26 PM

I have not purchased this Bickle truck to be clear, mine is from Wizzard Race Cars in Louisiana.

On a bright note I now have most of my engine for my truck. KB hemi block, Predator heads, Bryant crank, etc etc..Hoping to make 1130-40 bracket friendly HP and going back to throttle stop racing. Hopefully we can get this things weight down a bit. Hoping it will be a good fun hotrod to do some bracket racing and .90 stuff with. Been adding some tubes to stiffen the firewall area and have to move the 6C bars to clear the deep pan on the glide and get it on sliders.

Have removed some weight, out with the lexan bed cover and in with the carbon one.
