I primed the oil system today on the 541. It took surprisingly little effort to hit 20 psi. The drill was barely moving.
Spinning it a little faster saw a max of 75 psi.
Then, my faithful assistant turned the crank so we could verify oil to the rockers.

Someone really should have reminded me that the Comp roller rockers have oil holes on the top.

Did you know that with 75 psi you can spray 8 perfectly straight streams of oil and hit the lathe 17 feet away?

Just wipe down the ways with it and call it good.

Rust prevention for the lathe.

I'll go out on a limb here and predict adequate oiling will not be a problem...

FYI, the same thing happens with gasoline. It will shoot out and cover the walls if you have stuck floats and remove the spark plugs to clear the cylinders.

You should see what a 1/8" dia stream at 600psi does... you cant even react fast enough to prevent cleaning the rest of the day.

Any chance the rocker shafts are upside down?

What I was thinking. That's oil filling up the heads instead of being on the bearings.

You have to remember that when the engine is running, the holes in the cam to feed the heads only line up for a split second every other revolution.

There is no flood of oil going to the top end with the interrupted factory thru-the-cam oiling when the engine is running.

Unless you have a Koleno block.

Clear valve covers are the way to solve that problem. Then you can watch the oiling without getting it on you.

I have all my BB Mopars solid roller cams and most hydraulic roller cams grooved on the #4 cam journal to oil the rocker shafts full time to help oil cool the valve springs for better valve spring life, especially on my street motors up Same thing on SB also on # 2 and #4 cam journals wrench
Restrict as needed wrench

But it floods nicely when you've got pressure up and your faithful assistant stops turning the crank because he burst out in laughter.
