More spark plug thread concerns.

How smart is it to just install all 8 steel thread inserts for plugs, especially on aluminum heads ?

What could it hurt, if it is done properly that is, which would be pretty important !

My brother just did one on my Ford van engine.
Started the engine and the spark plug blew out of the head.
He has a kit to replace them in the vehicle.
Uses a special thread lock on the coil and it will not come out.

No damage, just a pre-emptive measure since everything is apart.

I wouldn't waste the time on it. Just don't over tighten them and use anti-seize. popcorn grin

I second this.
Me three, I use Champion brand liquid graphite base aircraft spark plug lube on all the plugs I put into aluminum race heads now up
I am careful to not get any of it on the plug part that is in the combustion chambers, on the plug threads only up wrench

i'm not doubting this statement, but i have been using copper hi-temp anti-seize on plug threads for over 40 years, and have never had this happen to me.
i use it like bryle cream as stated : "a little dab 'll do ya".........

My thought is helicoils are a one time use repair, the helicoil doesn’t always match the length of the threads of your part but will hold torque but any removal or restart of your bolt or in this case spark plug your are taking a chance, I use 10 to 15 helicoils daily for repairs in steel and aluminum and the aluminum is already a hit and miss for the higher torque applications.
I also use solid inserts that we install and use Red Thread Locker and let set for 24 hours for the bigger much higher torque applications (75 ft lbs and higher ) but never any thread locker on a helicol.

Do a little research on repair kits for the Ford V10. Several different methods.

I had a shop repair one hole on my Edelbrocks using a Time-sert. He was pretty adamant about using these over a Heli-coil.

Spark plugs don't get heli coils. They get one piece threads. This is one style.

iagree If you're gonna replace the threads, use something like this. I wouldn't be replacing anything until it HAD to be done though.
