Quick release stock steering column - 06/08/21 12:33 AM
Looking for ideas and advice for quick release steering wheel using stock column. Some say use GM kit and spline count is the same? Let me know what you guys did-trying to not weld one on or spend 750 on new column

I bought a coupler spike that slid over the stock spline , then you put a lock nut to hold it on . Then got the coupler and booted it to a grant wheel . I bought the spline coupler from jegs . Itβs heavy but works good

I got the splined part welded to a big body washer and drilled holed to mount on the 3 factory holes. The center shaft has 1/2" 20 thread like a lug nut so I used a shanked lug nut and cut it short to fit the center length needed and trimmed the acorn on top to fit under the steering wheel.

Grant made/makes kits for many factory columns. SFI rating may be an issue if it needs to pass tech somewhere.

Most of the guys in the above posts are using wheels with a dish. This limits you to working in the confines of a very short mount. If you use a more current aftermarket wheel with virtually no "dish", that will give you something in the neighbourhood of 3 to 4 inches of space to build your adapter in. Its just a thought ...
