Where did this intake come from?

Where did this intake come from? - 05/02/21 12:39 PM

I was looking for an intake to use for an upcoming dyno session and someone sent me this pic. Do any of you know this piece? It seems like an odd duck and came from the estate of a man who had a large collection of unusual engine parts.

It looks far too flat to offer much performance and that's surely why there aren't more around. I have zero interest in using it.

I'm thinking a Street Dominator or Torker would be far better suited for my hood clearance issues.

It came from Weiand. laugh2

From observing Offenhauser and very very old Weiand intakes I bet that was originally designed for the 413 or maybe even the raised block 383. In the 60s dual plane intake manifolds started resembling what were are accustomed to seeing now. But 50s early 60s they had a design and appearance that is a product of the tech at the time.

Be okay on a rat rod type thing....... where you didn’t care what it made for power.

Or a planter for a car themed garden.

Of the “low” manifolds, anything other than the SD is going to pretty much negate the head porting.

The original Torker has tiny ports and a tiny plenum.

I had my eye on the SD. It's going to be a temporary measure. I want to get the car running.I can do that with an intake and carb. EFI is going to come after the serpentine belt conversion and AC compressor relocation. The high pressure AC line fouls the throttle body.
Factor in the fuel system upgrades, charging system, accessory drive problems (throws belts too often), exhaust work, etc it'll be several thousand dollars before I can get it wrapped up. Home flooding issues have been tapping into the car budget. Summer will be gone before I get this thing where I want it to be. I might as well plop a carb on it and have a little fun and make changes as I can.

This is the intake I built for the TT440. I plan on dropping it on the 541 but don't want to mess with the old Electromitive TEC II system I ran back then. The 120 lb/hr injectors need to go and I'll have to build a sequential harness for it instead of the paired injector arrangement I used.

Obviously, if you just want to get it running, then anything that fits under the hood will suffice.

Compare the size of the ports in the manifold in the OP to a stock manifold. Some of the old single-four intakes for the Max Wedge heads looked like that.

I think I still have one of those with stock non M.W. size intake ports, I'm not sure if I will ever use it though.

Looks almost viper like.

Looks like a good start for an "underhood" forced induction system.

Good call John.
I didn’t notice it covers the valley like a MW intake, so I guess it could be a MW version.
If so...... then I’d use something else.

Even a stock intake would work fine to get it running.

It was on my turbo 440 for 10 years.

Wait, the tunnel ram variant was on my car. The one this thread is about belongs to someone I know.
