New carbs, linkage and lines, everything fits - 03/09/21 12:26 AM

All done. Throttle opens full, everything clears. Tried to make it all simple and easy to work on. Now we'll see how much it picks up.

The heads are a old set of -1s hand ported by the late Jeff K at Modern. Dry flow was listed as 1150. The real reason I swapped was to try and get more consistant at the starting line. ET wise? .1, .2? Don't know.

I like the linkage set-up - simple and clean! are you going to put return springs on it?

I’ve got a brand new set from Dale Cubic. If your ever at Martin it’d be an interesting comparison if you want to try them at some point.

Yes for redundancy. Though all 4 shafts have springs. Fabbing up the parts like these.

Are those Main bodies cast or billet? It is hard to tell from the pictures.
I am bringing it up now so you dont end up in a pissing contest later.

If they are BLP BX4 main bodies they're billet.

I think they are billet, why? What pissing contest?

NMCA rules

CARBURETOR
(NSS CLASSES): All entries in the eliminator must be carbureted as outlined below. Positioning of carburetors from factory mounting not a tech item (carburetors may be positioned facing forwards, backwards, or side mounted). Choke horn, choke plate, choke shaft, choke linkage, and choke mechanism may be removed. Carburetors are restricted to the following manufactures: Holley, Edelbrock, Carter, Rochester, Demon, Quick Fuel Technologies. Vehicles in this class permitted the use of carburetors listed for NSS, or Holley, Quick Fuel or Holley based carburetor 4150 style with a maximum 1.750 throttle blade. (NO Dominators).
Carburetor must have commercially available cast main body. Billet Base Plate and metering blocks are permitted. All NSS combinations are permitted duel four carburetor setup.

I was just trying to keep you from getting to an event and tech bouncing you.
I am not saying I agree or disagree with the way the rule is written, but it is how it is written.

Re: New carbs, linkage and lines, everything fits - 03/10/21 08:31 PM

I was just going to wait until I had Doug in the finals to tell him they were illegal lol....

Honestly though... I think it is a silly rule. Don't see the advantage and most people wouldn't even be able to tell.

Thanks,
Casey FJ

So does the manufacturer also come into play here? Must be produced by one listed?

Doug looks awesome your stuff really is show quality. Are you using the` stuffers that indy sells? Also I don't see a pop off device. Having popped one of those intakes I highly recommend at least one. I had one on mine and it still popped the top off. Just trying to save you some aggravation and hood damage. If I ran another one of those intakes I would put a pop off on both sides.

I am curious, how do the Indy cross rams compare to the big single plane intake, or a tunnel ram, which one makes more power?

Re: New carbs, linkage and lines, everything fits - 03/12/21 01:29 PM

Could that be a spring loaded pop-off between the carbs?

Re: New carbs, linkage and lines, everything fits - 03/12/21 02:59 PM

VERY well done, looks nice, I like that the shafts are splined , on my 8 stack linkage they are not & they have slipped once, so I had to loctite them.

Re: New carbs, linkage and lines, everything fits - 03/12/21 05:06 PM

There is a pop off valve between the carbs. It popped once do to improper starting procedure. Never in 7 years since. There are no modifications to the intake. Power wise the Eddys with the crossram seemed very close. The closest motor to mine that I can think of was David Ross Charger. 572 from Best Engines with similar cam and compression. Dominator, 14x32 with a brake at I believe 3000lbs? 8.8x. Mine has been 9.00@3350

Looks good Doug!...you have any help? LOL I think the rules need revisiting. That rule may be written to maintain a 'nostalgic' appearance? There is no advantage using that body against the others available that are 'legal' when index racing. Based solely on 'nostalgic' appearance, your car fits that standard better than MOST that I have seen INCLUDING the appearance of the engine. Where would you draw the lines in that 'argument'? ...vacuum pumps, electric water pumps and fans aren't nostalgic but they are legal. Walk up to your car, and IT LOOKS NOSTALGIC! Pull the hood off, and IT LOOKS NOSTALGIC! Open your door, and IT LOOKS NOSTALGIC! Now if it had a sheet manifold, tin seats and Alumistars...not so much IMO. But those are legal?

Re: New carbs, linkage and lines, everything fits - 03/12/21 05:35 PM

Doug , when i"m done with lens motor and we go on the dyno we are going to try 3 sets of carbs and lids. Going to try the holleys again also. We know what kind of power it makes with what we had been running for years so we will have a base line and go from there. hopfully it can pick up a few. Jake

Every year NMCA opens the book twice a year and asks for rules revisions to be submitted. I am the one who sent in the rule and got the Holley based 4150 carburetor in the class for all combinations.
NMCA wrote the rule a specific way and posted it. Like it or not... it is the way it was written and has been written for over a year.
If folks want something different, submit a rules request when they ask for them. They take all requests and in the case of NSS they discuss the requests with the three member rules committee. To be transparent, I am one of the three.

If yall want to have a rules discussion, we can do it in another post rather than step all over Dougs post. My intent wasn't to pick on Doug. It was to keep him from getting in a mess with tech.
