Re: Waterpumps ? - 02/27/21 11:19 PM

thanks Lew
I kind of think the Eddy and Source seem similar visually
Outlaw thanks , reviews arent so good .

I have a GMB (Japan) pump i fitted a anti cav plate to , 6 blade looks like Milodon . I also have a Source pump , had good results with them , first one ran7/8 yrs . Have new one on now .
I will refit GMB pump . Order a Flowkooler and see where i go .
I know its either too slow or too fast flow . I can also fit a gutted Tstat as a restrictor of sorts .

Re: Waterpumps ? - 02/28/21 04:45 AM

hi

i have a flow cooler on my 340 with an allu rad nd am NOT real happy with .

cools fine driving but i think water flow at low rpm is too slow , heats up in heavy traffic .

also noticed impeller is smaller in dia than the other two i have here ?

prob wil repace it with a gmb for this summer .

Milodon high flow pump AND Milodon high flow stat, they work very well together. Try both.

I use the MOPAR aluminum unit for A/c and overdrive it with a 6 cylinder pully. Keeps my 540 @ 180* on the hiway.

Re: Waterpumps ? - 02/28/21 04:34 PM

i have a '69 coronet r/t, 440/375hp, with a factory22" radiator. it's running hot before you turn the key,..lol. i've had the radiator re-cored from the original 2 row 76 tube piece of crap to a 3 row 144 tube; not as crappy. i've tried every kind of water pump made and without doubt the edelbrock/440 source were the worst. the milodon or any of the large diameter 6 blade pumps with the anti-cavitation plate work better than stock or the edelbrock/440source. in my car the flow cooler was at least 15 degrees cooler than the 440 source and from now on is my go to pump. i've played with every kind of mechanical fan i could buy. the best fan i've used for cooling is the old '070 clutch/7 blade. thermostats are a little hit and miss because of the variance in opening rates. the old robert shaw or thompson brass are the best; if you can find one. i've tried flow orifice discs instead of a thermostat and would only recommend in hot climates and then you would have to play opening sizes.

Re: Waterpumps ? - 02/28/21 08:56 PM

thanks guys for the replies .
Pump is on way , Flowkooler . I use March pulleys so 1:1 near enough . I have a AFCO crossflow radiator
I have not run a tstat in nearly 15 years , i do not like the idea of being in the staging lanes with cold motor and quick call up with going to burn out etc with tstat shut . I use the Mopar Performance 5 blade viscous fan , though i have the Jag short viscous drive on it now after fan ate radiator in Jan after 10 years or so use grrr . I have factory shroud . Mopar viscous drive puts fan max 1/2"off core now is closer to 1
It did seem visually @ 1100rpm the GMB pump with cav plate moves more coolant than the Source unit .
Will see . Testing saturday so see how it goes on freeway to the track .

Re: Waterpumps ? - 02/28/21 10:36 PM

I think you will like the Flowkooler pump because it flows pretty good at idle. I have an inline filter in my upper hose and I can see the coolant moving nicely through it.

Re: Waterpumps ? - 03/01/21 04:53 AM

Has anyone compared the way the impeller of the so called high flow designs fit the volute of the housings? Or how the volute of the aftermarket housings compare to OEM?

You may find that certain designs work well with certain housings and not others if they vary much from the OE design.

Save the money on the Milodon shiny box. I bought one and it’s a reboxed GMB pump.

Re: Waterpumps ? - 03/02/21 04:18 PM

you might be able to get by with the edelbrock/440 source pump if you have a lot of radiator, but if your working on a heat problem avoid them.
