Stewart is a class act!

That man has done more for grass roots racing than anyone who has ever gotten behind the wheel. Owns the All Star Circuit of Champions - UMRA Midget Series - Bought the legendary Eldora Speedway - and now is starting a series to compete with NASCAR..... Although his heart is in Dirt, I would love to see him get involved in drag racing.... heck then he can say he's raced just about everything there is to race.

Re: tony stewart ? - 12/25/20 04:52 PM

Tony & Leah is a pairing I didn't see coming, but my guess is he wanted to check out her world & be somewhat familiar with it.

Hawley said Tony essentially waltzed right through the SuperComp & A/Fuel passes, which doesn't surprise me.
Whether he tries a T/F car on, no word so far, but he definitely has the balls for it.

He has plenty of haters but seems to be a good dude overall and a very hardcore racer. The last few years he has been driving the tractor and working the track at the Chili bowl midget races.

I worked at Eldora the last 10 years Earl owned it and about the first 5 years Tony owned it. I was the winch operator on a wrecker. My buddy "hooked" em and the guy who owned the wrecker never got out of the truck.Tony treated me like any other person. Did he have to make some difficult decisions at time sure. He worked harder to put on a good race than most owners do. Birdtracker

AGREE 100% - Same with the All Stars. Heck a lot of the time the All Star shows are better than the Outlaws.

He intentionally swerved at and killed 20yr old Kevin Ward Jr. He should have went to jail.
He was let off the hook because the kid had smoked a joint that day
I can’t change the channel fast enough

Haha, I watched it over several times, he gassed it up and intentionally slid the rear over hitting the kid. Watch it yourself, he should have went to jail for manslaughter. I’m pretty sure the family won a wrongful death lawsuit or he $ettled up
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HG5S_FtTdkU. Try to imagine it was your son. In Other videos you can clearly hear engine rev, Tony go after him and hit him with the rear tire.

I've watched it numerous times. I've been around Sprint Cars a lot. You can't see very good out the right side of a sprint car because of the wing. It was dark, Ward had a dark suit and they are racing on clay. He saw the kid at the last minute and gas the car to turn it.

Personally...If you dumb or high enough to walk out an a race track like that.... you're taking the responsibility, That's not on Stewart nor the track. These type of law suits are bad for racing all together.

F'n Lawyers!

Tragedy for sure. But at the moment you get out of a car on a race track with cars active on the track and run towards moving cars...... YOU and YOU alone are responsible for whatever ensues. I understand the the parents are heartbroken, but to blame anyone in that situation other than the guy that got out of his car and rushed into traffic is just plain ridiculous.

Really ? Even when the other drivers had no problem getting past him, then tony intentionally aimed the car at him and sped up. He went after him to hurt or at least scare him, I’m sure not to kill him, but he did, it’s called vehicular manslaughter.
Just like if slam your brakes on to scare the guy tailgating you, and he crashes and dies, maybe never touching your car, you get caught and you go to jail. Unless your a celebrity maybe

Re: tony stewart ? - 01/07/21 01:15 PM

So what do you call getting out of your race car and moving towards other still moving race cars ?
It was a tragedy , and it was avoidable.
But the victim is responsible here.
You seem to want it to be someone else's fault , and I am sure you have reasons that make sense to you.
But from my chair , the kid screwed up big time and paid a horrible price for his actions.

Re: tony stewart ? - 01/07/21 02:13 PM

IMHO there were several mistakes made that night. The kid shouldn't have got out of his car, period, he could've taken it up with Stewart in the pits. I don't think Tony intentionally ran over him. I do think he was trying to be a dick and pitch the car and throw dirt on him. Tony is a talented driver and has done well in anything he's driven, but I don't like him.

Re: tony stewart ? - 01/07/21 02:37 PM

I'd guess that few if any commenting on that incident have run a dirt sprint car.
When the cars are live, you are not to exit a car unless it's an emergency.
You damn sure don't exit the car and walk/trot down anywhere near or into passing cars.
They're set up to turn left, strongly, to a varying extent (track-dependant); often very hard to swerve right.
I've been in them where it's hard to go straight.
Most of the time it's not all that well-lit, either.
And since the racing line changes constantly, you're looking at the surface development, not for someone walking or trotting towards the side of your car.

The kid and the family are well known around here and not well liked. He was doped up and in a race car. He exited a car on a race track with live cars running, He then moved towards a moving race car. That enough warrants trouble. Its dark, your moving towards a race car, and he is at a speed where you just cant " turn" a sprint car. Did Stewart want to throw some dirt? I dont know. Did he just try and power around him? I dont know. Only he knows. Bottom line, the kid would be alive if he wasnt doped up and acting like a jackass. He wanted to be all tough guy with a famous sprint car driver, and it cost him his life. It was stupidity, end of story.

Posted By: CMcAllister

Re: tony stewart ? - 01/07/21 05:16 PM

I have to think Stewart didn't see the kid, or maybe saw him from a distance then lost track of him as he got closer. Guys need to look at the right side of a sprint car, They are built to protect the driver, not see out of. Kid was an idiot.

Even a drag car, full cage, restricted movement, helmet, scoop - you really have to pay attention and be careful just moving around in a crowded pit.

Re: tony stewart ? - 01/07/21 05:40 PM

Sorry I brought it up but ....
He had traces of marijuana in his system - If you take a couple of tokes it stays in your system for 2 months
Tony wrecked him the lap before and the other drivers stayed low on the track to avoid it
Tony went high on the track knowing he just wrecked him up there.
..........So I have this boss at work and he is the nastiest most miserable person I’ve ever had to deal with in my life
and tomorrow I’m gonna ask if he wants to come racing with me

Re: tony stewart ? - 01/07/21 08:23 PM

Of course, the fact the kid stepped out of the race car on a dusty track, and, on top of that was found to be doped up, had nothing to do with it, did it?

The reports are that the family had to settle since the lawyers came to the conclusion that they would lose at trial. The lawyers told the family to take the settlement offer or else they would walk. The incident was reviewed by a ton of experts and the conclusion was that they couldn't prove it to be anything other than an accident. The local DA declined to press charges since he didn't have any proof of anything other than an accident. The kid didn't do himself any favors by having weed in his system and getting out of his car on the track. If I was on the jury I would've said that the kid was responsible for his own death. He was supposed to stay in his car and wait for the tow truck.

Perfectly explained. When your attorneys are going to walk the case is a dog and has no merits. Delt with attorneys involving accident claims for 28 yrs. Never once had one tell his client they were walking. And we defended against some real frivolous cases. This one had to be a sinking ship.

How many NASCAR drivers have gotten out of there cars and walked or ran on the racetrack - Seriously

Sure , those NASCAR cars look really slow at 55mph during pace laps on TV

Tony Stewart knew exactly what the hell he was doing and wanted

It was a sad situation no matter who you liked or didn’t like

Let these damn drivers settle it out , man to man like mentioned instead of having there body guards protect them once outside the car

Me thinks the kid may have been spoiled, a local hero and thought he was special, he thought wrong down didn't he.
I use to help some roundy round racers at a local 1/4 mile paved oval in San Bernardino, CA .
They, roundy round drivers and crew, are a completely different breed of racers than power boat racers, airplane racers, motorcycle track racers and other car racers I've ran into and help. Some of them are complete idiots down

Those cars are set up with a huge amount of stagger. They are steered with the throttle more than with the wheel.

The vast, vast majority of injury attorneys work on a contingency, taking anywhere from 25-33% (usually) off the top of the injury settlement. Very few charge for their time.

Agreed, I don't have any seat time with one of those but I am sure any seasoned driver would do the same thing, turn left and smash the gas. Those little front tires aren't going to influence that thing much otherwise.

At least one other driver had a problem getting past him. Chuck Hebing, who was driving in front of Stewart under caution, said in a deposition he needed to react quickly to avoid Ward.

"I jerked the car to the left and stepped on the gas to turn the car quicker to get away from him, and then I said to myself that the next guy is not going to have time to get around him and is going to hit him, and that is what happened". Link
