Leaf Spring slider Tech - 12/01/20 01:45 AM

Time to try something new...looking to improve the 60 ft of the car substantially... these are manufactured by LP racing... the current sliders are bolt in so I can always go back if things do not play nicely

I guess they are supposed to allow more body separation? Post video when you make some passer.

I've seen a couple of people try them out somewhat successfully although I'm not convinced they are better than a conventional slider. Tom Barton had them on Nova here on the east coast that runs 4.40's in the eighth and ended up going back to the 10 degree slider. Armen Maghdessian had them on his car in Vegas two weeks ago and they worked great BUT that track was so tight everyone was going personal best 60's. Regardless, I don't think they are an easy bolt on and forget it part - the shock tuning is going to be critical to making the whole thing work. The other thing is - the cars trying to use these are probably 2000+ horsepower combos or close to it. I run leafs and have been in the 1.0 sixty range probably 10 times and have run a 1.06 sixty three times. That's my best so far and I use a 10 degree slider set up. I like the out-of-the-box thinking behind these for sure.

At least the tires should be easier to get off the car.

Hopefully I will have good information to report back I just didn't feel I could sit here without trying it...

. Just looking for a little more rear travel.. figured it would be worth a try... definitely some challenges ahead. Hopefully a quality science experiment

. Controlling the hit has been the challenge... if I can get the timing and sooner without running out of rear travel I can see positive results and this song but by but absolutely no it's only going to be a learning curve

don't know why you would want more travel. That is not the most desirable action you want. we usually stiffen the shocks to control that. you want it to pitch and rotate. With that set up you drive the ic way up. what kind of power you making if your sixties are 1.06. that is faster than an ss/ah car.

This is a Pro Radial style tire. If you can separate the housing further you can keep adding load to the tire. And you have a shock with the ability to control the speed at which this happens, my bet is you can ramp in power earlier.

It will be interesting to see if this slider shows up on other radial tire cars. THe ability to have a "moving" IC is very helpful, As the Fox body mustang has

So what you're buying is one shot from the sketch on the cocktail napkin straight to the welder with no testing?

This was my exact thoughts as well Doug, that this setup was only intended for cars that are ramping in timing and power well after the initial hit. I'm not familiar with OPs car, so hopefully that's what he's doing.

1.15. Is our best so far . And yes it is a tick faster then in SSHA car.. naturally aspirated small block on a 28-10.5 Tire
we do not want to pitch rotate in radial tire trim..

Install slider into frame rail
With a little rattle can on top... I have made shims that go in under the bolt in slider to help scale the car there is 6 lb between the left and rear tires on the starting line ready to go.. just a little Backyard Boogie

I'm fine with the travel I have with the conventional sliders. I really don't need any more - at least I don't think I do. I only see a little of 2" of extension at the shock but my shocks are in front of the axle. Most mount them behind the axle - those will see more travel/extension. I'm not going to knock anyone for trying something new so the WHITEDART should keep going with his plan.
As far as power? Not sure what I make. What does it take to run 168 in the eighth at 2825 lbs? The cars I mentioned earlier are both Nitrous cars that run in the 150/160 range. Nitrous guys, WHITEDART included, can pretty much dial in whatever sixty foot the chassis can take with the instant torque ot the nitrous hit. One last thing - no one is talking much about the front suspension. Shock valving and suspension set up/travel is every bit as important in the front.

I saw them pop up on LRP's FB ages ago, I thought they were a little strange looking. Reality is though, you don't set records doing what everyone is doing. I'll be interested to see if you can get them to work.
