Where would you buy from for fiberglass - 69 Coronet?

Where would you buy from for fiberglass - 69 Coronet? - 11/29/20 03:51 AM

Looks like 4-5 vendors making stuff, I'm looking for bolt on hood, decklid, bumpers. Most likely flat hood, maybe RT bulge since a couple make that. Turbo car so while I love the 6pk scoop look I don't need the scoop and after reading the hood scoop thread awhile back seems better to do without if it doesn't direct air into a carb.

I'm local to VFN and Glasstek so shipping would be $0
But have seen AAR be recommended.
then there's US Body.
Thanks!

I had a bunch of Glasstek stuff. All of it was really nice. I picked it up at their shop.

I very much agree!! I have used 2 glasstek hoods on my 68 charger. One of their lightweight liftoff hoods, and the other is the heavier duty fiberglass hood used with hinges. Very very nice quality hoods...both of them. I painted the heavier version Silver to match my car, and everyone thinks it’s my orig steel hood. Fitment and lines as good as original steel hood.

Buy the best, don't shop for price: your body shop will need to do much work on a lesser quality fender.

so far in my research price isn't that different among the vendors that it would be a huge decision point - I agree I don't want to save $100 to spend $300 later in labor.
Glasstek doesn't list a decklid however, or 69 fenders (though I plan to retain my steel ones).

A Corvette shop may have experience in things like taking the twist out of a panel by glassing a strut to the back side while held in a jig

Glasstek and Vfn are both quality products. AAR is super nice but also heavy as its more replacement panels.

The stuff I bought from AAR was fairly light. Lighter then my US Body source fenders. Quality was excellent. Bumpers needed almost zero work. There isn't a single piece of fiberglass made that is scuff and shoot.

It sounds like among glasstek, VFN, AAR, US Body there's nobody to avoid like the plague then?

Glasstek! Number 1 in my book.

Reinforcing FG panels, outside the mold, after the original layup, can have a number of unintended warpage issues, in that polyester resin contracts quite a bit upon curing.

VFN and Glasstek both very good race weight parts.
AAR was great 10 years ago, under new ownership now, hood purchased last year needed 8 hrs body work before primer.
US body source is the worst fiberglass i've seen.A friend bought a hood many years ago, it was almost 1/2 inch thick in spots and weighed close to his steel hood

Interesting... I was about to post that the AAR bolt-on Six Pack hood for my '69 Super Bee from 15 years ago was literally "scuff and paint" (admittedly paint flat black), but looking at their website now, the hood actually looks like a completely different hood.

Have you looked at Unlimited Fibreglas yet? If not I think you should scope twocents
I've bought and used two of their hoods on my 1970 Cuda S/P car, very nice up scope

UP22.com???? Really? Did something change? I have a 6-pac hood that I’d gladly post pictures to dispute any claims of a quality product.

They change ownership back in the early 2000s, Dominic, ThumperDart, used some of their new parts in 2005 or so after the new owners made all of their parts a lot better quality and they are very good now up
I use to use Fibreglass Trends until the second owner past on and when his Son took over it started downhill until I quit buying their parts in the late 1990s down

went with Glasstek for hood and bumpers (They don't offer deck lid). Gave me a good 'cash and carry' local price and had a month shorter lead time than VFN currently.
