Small Block Crankshaft For Daily Driver P/U - 11/21/20 08:44 PM

I don't have any experience with strokers I'll be driving this to work daily and pulling a boat in the summertime.

1st I'm thinking 4" with trick flow 190 heads 6.2 rod

2nd 4.125" Edelbrock victor heads and a 6.4 rod.

3rd 4.125" hughes big mouth heads 6.4 rods.

I don't want to have to spin it more than 7000, preferable 6500 or less.

Thanks

Why the 6.400 rod for the 4.125 crank?

I went with a 6.200/2.000 rod on my 4.125 deal

You are gonna have a 1.096 CH even if the deck is actually 9.56. I don't like having the pin in the rings.

The Victor head will mandate a single plane....not really the best plan for towing a boat and under 6500rpm type of use.

The Big Mouth port work is likely overkill as well.

The Trick Flow is likely the better choice.

Given the intended useage, I would probably just use a ported set of RPMs.

What kind of P.U. and tranny?
1/2 ton 2 wheel drive short bed with a automatic, 1/2 ton short bed with a truck 4 speed? 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive or what?
Are you wanting to mess with other trucks on the streets as far as mine is faster and more powerful than yours? work

You're gonna tow a boat at 7000 r.p.m. ?
This , I gotta see.
Figure out what it is you really want.
Then call a reputable cam grinder and answer their questions.
Honestly.
There is nothing wrong with wanting the best of everything out of a motor.
But some characteristics suffer when pursuing others.
I suspect mileage is going to be a part of the equation too.
Finally , a cam is just part of the picture.
Select a combination of parts that compliment each other and all work toward what you want from the motor.
I think you are going to find that less is more here.
No need for the rotating assembly du jour here.
3.58 or 4 " with a 6.123 rod is perfectly fine.

Big cubes need a big head. I'll probably use hyd roller. Short wb 2wd. I want to use a 4 speed auto. As far as the boat goes I'll probaby only need to tow it 4 or 5 times a year and it's only 10 miles round trip. I want a fast fun to drive P/U. I even thought about trying to find a 4.25" crank. Does anybodt make a loose converter that still has lock up capability? I know that they have them for other brands.

How 'bout just a stock stroke 440? In a lightweight A body with a small engine bay, I understand the appeal of the sb. In a truck there is room to spare for a bb. Would be cheaper to build and might last longer as a daily driver than a super long stroke sb with severe rod angularity and short piston.

On the converter question… I sent the stock lockup converter from my 92 5.2 / 518 to Lenny at Ultimate he redid it and I picked up a tenth in 60 ft just saying...

I already have a 360 magnum block and I now have a set of Eddie heads for it. I'll consider the Lenny idea on the torque converter.
