Alterkation suspension - 10/23/20 08:19 PM

Anyone know if Bill still builds the Alterkation front suspension? I'm not having any luck with his website.

Id recommend the HDK setup. I've seen both side by side and the HDK is a nicer peice in my opinion..

For those of us who have not had the experience of a fair side by side comparison, best if you define/explain "nicer" for us in context.

My experience ..

I asked for my set up to be s specific way from Bill , he ignored my request .. I had s few questions after the sale, he ignored them ..I think after the hundred's, maybe thousands of them he has sold, sure he could find a way to make them with mandrel bent tubing ..
It fits ok, and I'm sure it will be fine but its easily the ugliest front made ..

took close to two months to get it , parts were missing, took another 3 weeks to get the missing parts .

It also costs the most ( my experience)

Gerst fronts , look way nicer ,,fit great, work great ,. cost less , carl will answer the phone every time, he is very helpful .. got it in 19 days, he told me 3 weeks ..

The longer coilovers and narrower potential track width of the HDK design seemed like good distinguishing features when I was debating which company to use.
Overall, I like the HDK setup and purchased that for my 66 Coronet. Hopefully I can get around to installing it this coming year.
All of them are well thought out designs.

Not sure of today's choices, but back when Alter K was the only streetable setup available I bought one for the Dart. Dropped 150 lbs off the front, and it drives like a new car. The cost wasn't bad considering how much i would have spent rebuilding/replacing the worn out suspension and steering box. I wanted the torsion bars to be gone anyway. Never had any problems with customer service...in fact, when Bill modified his design and narrowed the track width of the Alter-K, he shipped me the revised A-arms and new bushing as well, free of charge. The one i have is an early type with a crossmember made of welded square tubing. The mandrel bent type crossmember might have an issue with water trapping in the cup formed from bending...not that many will see any rain.
