i promised myself if i hit 400 WHP in my import id be happy. now im looking at a CNC ported head, huge valves, bigger cams and some other things.

My barracuda isn't running and it has a 540 in it. im already looking at turbos for it.

i can go on and on about every car i have ever owned. sometimes we just need more. When it stops scaring you, time to spend some money!

I started crewing for a friend this year, admittedly he had just spent near $30000 on fitting a new Motor/trans/converter/Dana/caltracs + new slicks/shocks in the hope of running a 10.5. Well we have run 10.35 so far and when I asked him if we were going to keep upgrading with minor things to try and improve consistency/ET, he said "I don't wanna go any faster"......well lets hope he didn't really mean it, but thats where it could end!!. lets hope not as its going to be very boring running the exact same set up all the time even though we are in a brkt class...I've never heard anybody associated with Drag Racing ever say that in my 40yrs involved with the sport, there's always a first time though.

Horsepower is an addiction worse than cocaine or heroin. The more you have the more you need. It is considered to be incurable.
I went through Horsepower detox many years ago but I still feel that uncontrollable urge nearly everyday.

It is a disease with no known cure....

Re: The quest for more HP never ends does it.... - 10/19/20 04:50 PM

I had that disease for a number of years. Basically spending every dime i had on wanting to go faster and racing. I learned some lessons the hard way.
Now, i am content racing when free time allows and not wanting to try and have anything other than a consistent car i can be competitive racing with and not have to work on hardly ever. Just basic maintenance.
Honestly having more fun now than i ever have.

Gun's and Roses had a song with the line "I used to do a little but a little wouldn't do it so a little got more and more" while he wasn't talking about horsepower the same holds true. That is also VERY true about nitrous, I had to quit that stuff lol

You should have your friend committed to an old folks home. It's over for him...

It doesn't if your goal is to keep going faster,,my next car i build is going to be a father and son project track only car. A car that runs high 9s and that's it. Something to have fun with and spend time with my son. I'm at the age where how fast it is don't really matter to much anymore.

i am with your mate .
Bracket racing doesnt matter if youre fastest . As long as i am consistant and close to the pointy end of the class i am happy . The class is cut off at 10.00 , car sits in the 10.30s top 5 or 6 .There is always someone with deeper pockets . It is my daily as well so dont need too out there . Low maintenance easy to drive consistant .

Take your motor now, stick a 98mm on it. And you have all the horse power you can drink.
