Best Electric cut-outs?

Best Electric cut-outs? - 09/16/20 01:22 PM

So I've though about adding electric ut-outs to my 1970 CUDA build. I figure since the entire exhaust is coming out and getting replaced, this would be the time to do it. I'm going with TTI exhaust system, but the added option of blasting by Prius owners with a nice loud exhaust is too tempting and decided to add it on. So My questions are:

Which Electric cut-outs have the best quality?
What is the life on those and how much servicing will these need?
I am considering running them right before the mufflers as to keep possible exhaust gases from re-entering the driver's compartment and with it further down the car, keeping the electric's cooler would be a good thing. Does that sound like the correct location to install?

The best are from Dough Thorley...
They use a sliding gate rather than the butterfly flipper that tends to leak...
The sliding gate design though more bulky does do like a clean sweep when operated for open/close...
Note that mine original set is now 20 years old still working fine...

Just my $0.02... wink

iagree I had 2 different sets of the Quick Time cut outs years ago and the were a pain. Numerous problems. Finally sold them and bought a set of Dougs. Now this was 15 years ago and I think they have changed since then. But the ones on my Cuda have been great. No problems.

And electric cut outs are a blast at car shows and even just driving around.

The best ones are the Holley Blackheart Holley kit. It uses the Chrysler cutouts, and is programmable. cost is about $1000 from Holley.

Also, the unit will fully interface with the Holley HP or Dominator ECU as well. That is the way I have mine. It also comes with the 3.5" color display in the kit standard.

I had great luck with the DMH cutouts on my old Duster.

I put Granatelli cutouts on my 70 Challenger and I like them much better because they are one touch control. Just bump the momentary toggle switch and they are open, no holding the toggle up or down.

Thank you everyone for taking time to post suggestions and pics, it’s been very helpful. Love see if putting them before the mufflers would be better than behind the collectors.

The closer they are to the header collectors the louder they'll be.
