Dominator to 4150 and went faster?

Dominator to 4150 and went faster? - 09/10/20 01:34 AM

Who has picked up going from dominator to a 4150? Stock stroke 440- big girl at 3565lbs with me in it. Looking at my options since I have 2” adapter and dominator that is too close to the hood. Looking at going to Wilson 1” and custom 4150 and taking dominator off. Thoughts? Iron head motor

If both are setup right, the Dommy will always be faster...Go to a tricked out 4150 with 50cc squirters and Dommy metering blocks and the difference gets a lot smaller...

I have a Wilson 1" adapter 4150 to 4500 if interested...

It depends on the intake manifold and the adapter as well as the carbs in question. I wouldn't be surprised if a good 4150 on a 4150 intake made more power than a 4500 on an adapter.

The dominator is from dom thumper and I have spoke to him about building me another blp 4150 for my combo so it will be top notch parts. It will be interesting to see the difference on my setup. Send me pm with info for adapter and thanks

I am running a victor 440 on the motor now and would likely run a Wilson 1” with the 4150

What's the difference between a 4150 metering block and a 4500 metering block?

If it's not faster with the 4500, suspect the A:F curve.

You would have to talk with the carb guru's but I think the 4500 metering blocks are setup for higher flow. Maybe larger restrictors and such, might not actually be the blocks, but the way they are setup.

Run a dedicated 4500 intake...Or redrill what you have to accept a 4500 carb

It would be cheaper to buy a new intake than to buy a carb. Put a 4500 intake on there and keep your existing Dominator and you should go faster. The Victor 440 isn't a good intake for a Dominator since it has a small plenum. A Super Victor would work if it fits. If you don't have the room for a Super Victor then find a Mopar M1 4500. They are a little hard to find but they work really well.

If he is currently running a Victor w/ a 2" adapter for the 4500 carb, then he should be able to fit just about any intake on the planet b/c what he has is TALL.
I agree on trying a different manifold before changing carbs.

Stock stroke 440 with iron heads probably doesn't need a Super Victor so I think the M1 4500 would be the best choice. The M1 4500 had standard size runners but a nice large plenum and a 4500 bolt pattern. It also isn't super tall so it should fit under the hood you are currently using. You would probably have enough room for a 1 inch tapered spacer. The intake plus a spacer should still be less money than buying a new 4150 carb. This picture shows low deck M1 4500 intakes but they'll give an idea of what to look for. Just watch out for the wider Stage VI versions that are floating around. You don't want one of those.

An HVH supersucker adapter 4500/4150 on a Victor that’s had a little work done to it can really work quite well.

But if it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t fit.

I’d look for an M1 4500.

I went an easy 9.79 off the trailer in 2012 and have been 6.15 at 112+ in the 1/8 with a crappy 1.40 60 ft. a couple years ago BUT my adapter was fully ported and blended into the plenum which I know helped. A heavier car needs a bit more velocity to get it going and enuff volume to pull through the traps so a dedicated 4500 manifold MAY be faster, may not be but I can build ya a high velocity/volume 4150 up to 1100+ cfm if needed.....

On the 725 discontinued dec 2014, no depots or dealers stock this item..... no sure if “Chicago Connection” would be part of dealer network so if they have one on the shelf I’d scoop it up! $289 list, $216 net.

I bought one from Chicago Connection for my 470 project. They were discontinued everywhere but Chicago said they had a few on the shelf. I didn't really believe it but one showed up when I ordered it. I don't know the back story, perhaps they bought a ton of them before they were discontinued and they are just slowly selling them off. It worked for me but that was a couple of years ago.

Thanks Dwayne, they had one on the shelf that I scooped up. Appreciate the info!

I was tempted to snag one myself...... just to have it.
But....... I made my own out of a Holley SD in 1990......before the M1 intake even existed.

Shortly after I did this one, the Weiand TG came out, which was also available in a 4500 version.

That is super impressive. Have you ever dyno tested that against new stuff?

Thanks again for the heads up on the website, I wasnt aware that place existed. Older guy was super nice and went upstairs to confirm they had one, said its a little dusty but in the original mopar box and you'll have it by friday lol. Great guy to deal with.
