magnum force lower control arm crack - 07/07/20 10:31 PM

My Bud has the original k frame it his challenger race car .Lucky the control arm break was after he put the car back in the trailer. As it turns out Magnum force did an upgrade due this issue with street cars breaking them more often. Magnum Force will not remake these even in a thicker wall size. We checked with S & W they may make a set but not sure. Any body know of a set hanging on a wall or one of the talented moparts guys who is familiar with this and can make a set. ?? Thanks

I agree, that would be my guess, but anybody who would drive it that way with that "fix" is really taking a chance. That looks like a poor repair, of a bad design.

Hey Its not about a repair to reuse the broken arm . Its if someone has a pair they would like to sell. or can recommend someone to make a set.. The car was sitting on the header . It was welded back together to roll the car out of the trailer. Thanks

And, decent local race car shop , chassis builder should be able to build a nice set of them ..or, ship one to me and we can get it made here easily

Thanks Big Dad, were waiting to see if S & W can reproduce them with a thicker tube and bracing. Ill pm you later on if we strike out. Thanks

Re: magnum force lower control arm crack - 07/08/20 08:16 PM

A thicker tube solution is only a band aid for normally a poor design. The failure issue will not be removed unless the thickness is dramatically increased. I would suggest figure out from a few knowledgeable sources what is causing the fracture, what solutions are likely to fix it, and then decide the one best for you. Copying it often seldom gives a customer a better solution, more likely the same or worse. This is a non redundant catastrophic failure part. You don't have the luxury of OEMs of doing a lot of FEA/destructive testing, etc. You need to get it right, you(?) were lucky the first time, eventually the odds will catch up with you.

16 years of wheel stands I would say it held up pretty good. no reason why it cant be replaced, and improved the car drives straight and solid at 147 mph has for all those years.

That Challenger has always been nice and fast! I hope you can find a solution to the problem. Years ago a friend purchased a Magnum Force front end for his Dart and encountered problems during installation but eventually got it to work. He sold the front end to my mentor/ trans builder/friend for his sons Dart and its working well now. I didn't get to see you at Mopars at the Patch , I didn't have my Dart there and my friend was racing my pickup due to a knee injury on my part

i can see that tube has no gussets on either side.
could you add them easily, and would they interfere with anything in the suspension travel ?

threatened ? I would send you a P M but your over the limit on private messages!! I guess your caustic personality has others wondering what kind of an AA-HOLE you must be. down Yes there are no gussets , brackets for travel limiters . Car drivers like its on rails. We Made the mopar day, the track was like Ice from all the street cars. Not much prep for the pro class. I did see your truck there, but not you. hope all is well.

Re: magnum force lower control arm crack - 07/12/20 10:49 PM

Reminds me of an incident my daughter had in HS, See was according to her story, and witnesses, had another girl unprovoked grab her hair and started punching her in the face. My daughter instinctively tried to separate from her attacker, which as it turns out, when somebody has a fist full of your hair, its difficult to achieve. Her next response was to simply duck and scream. The screams were heard nearly across the entire school. An official school guard out of sight ran to the screaming and stopped the attack. BOTH girls were suspended because official school board policy, because THEY were fighting, and guard saw little of the actual attack, and nobody had the gumption to look further into the matter.

Told my daughter, next time, pull a weapon to protect yourself, no sense in fighting a fair fight if you are guilty no matter what the facts.
