A friend of mine gave me this 440 I was tearing it down tonight and found this. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Looks like a Lunoti can ground on a 112 center line.. try looking yo the numbers you see there

Looks like it was cut for oiling.. not factory that I know of.. looks like it wouldnt hurt anything

The last 3 blocks that i had go through my hamds had that. 1 was a 1970 440 block. Another was my 1974 block. They looked exactly like yours. My 1972 400 block has only 1 vertical cut on the surface.

That's stock for lubing the back side of the cam gear up Some blocks have one slot for oiling the gear, some have like yours shruggy

Yes, it does look like a hole saw type of cut but the process and tooling used is called "trepanning"

My '76 440 block is like that. My '69 383 block had a slot
