Hand held lithium ion race tire inflator - 05/18/20 03:44 PM

Looking to get a rechargeable hand held tire inflator to top off fronts and slicks at the track without carrying around an air tank
Any recommendations?
Looking for something strong enough to put 6-10 pounds of air in a tire sometimes and still hold a charge

Ive had one for years and it works great even on rear tires. I got mine from Bickle on sale

Al..
Is it the one they have online that is 59 dollars?
Did you need that extra 9.99 hose, or did it come with one

Buddy of mine had a small compressor and hose mounted in the back of his car. I'm nutty about weight, so that made my head hurt just thinking about it.

Using nitrogen in the tires helps reduce having to babysit them.

Edit-Looks like the $64 version comes with a traditional chuck to fill the tire rather than just the screw on inflator like I have. Didn't have that option when I got mine years ago. and I just bought the hose smile

Nope bought nothing extra..I wonder if the extra hose has a slip on connection for the valvestem. The one it came with screws on, not a huge issue for us anyway but would be nice it is just slid on I suppose. Got mine a few years ago at Christmas when I was buying some racepak stuff that was also on sale at Bickle so was a tad less.

Thanks... didnt see that one for 64 initially. Looks like the way to go with air chuck
Hopefully it has enough steam to top off tires quickly

It as worked well for us on the rear tires, 111" rollout so big ones. We use tires pressure as a last minute adjustment to the track. When it starts to get slick/sketchy we will ad as much as a pound of air to the rear. Do the same thing on the heads up car to adjust for the starting line, just different with a small tire vs a big tire.

I have some RYOBI tools so I got one of their inflater after I saw one my Dad had. Its great for making adjustments to tire pressure but pretty slow if you had to air a tire up from flat. If you don't already have some ryobi 18V tools it may not be economical if you had to buy it with a battery compared to other options.

I've broken 2 inflators. After the second I drug my Summit air tank out of the attic.

I will use it just to top off tires, at most a few pounds they might have lost from the previous outing from sitting
Frontrunners and 28 by 275 radials, so not 14/ 32’s... or ever filling flat tires

Just ordered a Bickel one. I normally only have to let air out during the day, but it looks like it will be handy to have.

I have not had any issues with mine, guess I just got lucky. We have had it for three years used on my car and the dragster. Been borrowed by more people than I can count. Usually just needed for those long sits in the lanes or if we feel the track conditions warrant a change. Never given me or anyone else a lick of trouble. I amsure its made in China, whats not these days

I bought a Ryobi inflator this winter for the race car. Should be testing it out soon. I tried it out in the garage this winter. Seemed to work good. Looks very similar to the Bickel one.

I bought one a few years ago from a big name race team/car builder. It comes with a neat stowage box that doubles as a lunch box. You'll need that lunch if you are going to fill a tire or just even to add 5 pounds to a tire.

It is handy in the lanes as you can add a single pound to a 10.5 X 29 tire in just under 5 minutes per tire. Using this tool not only amazed my fellow racers, it amused them as well.

I only actually used it once, there just isn't enough time in life to use twice. I gave it away to a friend, who only used it once as well. It is now for sale, in almost unused condition, at a bargain price I might add.

I am told there is good ones of these available, I just haven't seen one. I now just plan ahead, and check or add in the pits. The only thing I regret in buying the one I had was throwing away good money.

Best of luck to you.

I have a Ryobi inflator and like it. It was relatively cheap because I already had several Ryobi batteries.

The built it gauge is not at all accurate but does seem to be repeatable. For example if you shooting for 12lbs you may need to fill it to 18 on the pump's gauge before you check it with a real gauge. However for the next tire you can do the same and get the same results.

I owned one.. I used it twice on the same day.. way to slow... I put a pound high in the pits before I head
up to the lanes.. much quicker than that stupid thing.. it even takes a couple of minutes to let out
a bit of air while you are in the lanes.. I still have that POS in the back of a drawer in my trailer

Ah, an identical experience to mine. But like I said, only one regret buying it, throwing away good money. Actually, if I hadn't have bought it then, I would have bought it later, and gotten the same results. Such is life.
