NHRA is boring...how to make it better. MHRA - 03/26/09 04:19 AM

MHRA (My Hot Rod Association) Rules say:..all cars run 1320 feet with the following changes.

Top Fuel - Funny Car - Pro Stock

All three of these classes are canceled in their current form ..fans are bored, racing is boring, cars bear no likeness to the real cars. Auto makers see no connection.

NEW RULES
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Top Fuel - Change to tire size, limited to a 12 inch slick. Make all the power you want, totally unlimited, good luck hooking up. No chassis over 260" That will slow em down. Possibly get rid of the wings and go back to smoking the tire for 1320 instead of slipping the clutch. I'd watch that.

Funny Car - Same as Top Fuel rules 125" WB but car bodies must template to an actual car. Space ship bodies are out. No bodies that work in Funny Car in stock form? Figure it out, that's racing.

Pro Stock - Bodies must template to a real car, limits on hood scoops so the cars look like production cars as originally intended, 12 inch slick max. Who knows maybe manufacturers and fans will actually see a connection with what they can buy.

Nostalgia Funny Car (includes a special sub class for Altered wheelbase cars) and Nostalgia Fuelers - In the program.

Fuel classes are given extra points for executing at least one fire burnout per event. Bonus points for using NHRA "Wallys" as hammers in the pits.

Nostalgia Pro Stock - New class, body yrs to be determined.

Injected Junior Fuelers - Injected Nostalgia Fuel Funny Car - In the program

Class for Wheelstanders

Class for Jet Cars

Super Stock - Great class, no changes.

Gassers are back AA/G - J/G

Modified Production - Its back, manual transmissions with de-stroked small blocks. Wowee Zowee.

Stock Eliminator - Its a big part of the show on Sunday.

Following classes will also be included:

Pro Mod
King of the Street
NMCA cars?
others??????

Following classes are PERMANENTLY CANCELED:

Alcohol Funny Car
Alcohol Dragster
Super Gas
Super Comp
Competition Eliminator (nobody gets it, even the racers get confused)

Nobody from California will be allowed in Sr. MHRA management.

All electronics are BANNED including throttle stops and delay boxes. Its boring and takes the driver out of the car. ELECTRONICS BAN includes being banned from all bracket races.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the basic show for MHRA, would be infinitely more entertaining for fans and racers.

Ideas? Hate it? Like it? I'd pay good money to see MHRA run.

Competition Eliminator is a great class, don't know why anyone would want to get rid od it, each to his own

Left off Fuel Altereds they're back, injected and blown. Comp Eliminator gets canceled and cars have to find a home in one of the other MHRA classes.

If you added a few trailers of MMA cage fighting , Strippers and cheer leaders shooting streams of whiskey into the stands it would be just like this dream I had...... And I may even watch less football in the fall and go to the strip instead.

NHRA pro classes are stinking pretty bad. I don't particularly like Top Fuel or TFFC. I am a huge pro stock fan though. I agree the NHRA needs some excitement and less corporate exposure. Good god you go to the races and can not relate to the money that is there anymore. They have lost the connection with the fans.

ABOLISH ANY AND EVERY RULE MADE AFTER 1970.

Lift this new BS with the Top-fuel. (see above)

Lift the 90% rule (or whatever it is now) in top fuel... allow as much nitro as the racer wants. (see above)

Relax tech rules to 1970 spec or earlier. Wanna run a 528inch blown alky hemi in your Pinto with no cage? Sure... sign here first.

Bring back those crazy altereds... the REAL ones...

Racing got gay when it got safe. You want safe? Play video games. You want to have some FUN... sign the waiver. Certain common-sense rules apply ov course... Dont wanna race Mr. 2000HP stock-chassis Pinto in your $100000 numbers Cuda? No prob. We'll line him up with someone else (E.J. Potter's looking for a run with his new Allison V-12 powered Smart Car...). Make it like true street racing... self-policed, dangerous, loosely governed, and so fun you're heart beats furiously for hours before and after you do it. So fun your week becomes a blur as you live weekend to weekend.

Security = death. You wanna be safe or you wanna LIVE...???

That is the problem right there, NHRA is becoming nascarized which is not a good thing at least to me. I find that they are living for the moment but not thinking about the future. They are not developing the next generation

I wonder what the average age is for Super Stock driver/owner or any class in NHRA. Where are the young drivers? I bet there is a BIG difference in 2009 and 1976. They have run away many of the newbies. There are many reason why which I will not go into. Do they just not like the sportsmen? I guess thats why I sold out.

I'd take it a step further and completely abolish the christmas tree, all categories would run heads up.

I would not abolish the tree, change it yes.
That's all we need is an arm dropin fool on top
of a box getting mowed down by a fuel car.

All run heads up? Might be tough for the low
dollar racer. The new MHRA is for the low dollar
racer also. Take out the $$$$ B.S. of it.

I meant abolish the countdown function of the tree, run 'em all heads up like the pro categories.

And a 3200# street car on a true 10.5 tire should be allowed to have notched/altered rear frame rails. Did you hear that Norwalk??!!

In top fuel, front engine cars get weight break, unlimited hp, unlimited tire. I'm sure there are 16 other people as crazy as me that would love to drive one.

Sounds a lot like a weekend at Lions back in the good old days; I'm so fortunate to have been there. Sadly a lot of guys got hurt or killed, and that's not fun to watch or be a part of.
The Nostalgia Drags around the country have a lot of the stuff you're mentioning, and I prefer to run at those events. I don't see myself getting involved in the NHRA class structure, as I'd rather be around good, well-constructed "old" cars. A movement back towards stock-appearing bodies should help the automakers. Big money seems to ruin everything and it runs off the "little guy", but that happens when things turn "professional". Stock, SS, MP, PS, injected dragsters, Fuel Altered, FC & TF oughta do it for pretty much anybody - oh, and the Gassers, too. One of the problems is ET; a lot of guys want contemporary ETs, which works against the old-style atmosphere. The problem is "progress", so you may have to limit ET or speed, which would be difficult to pull off. One last thought is that I hate throttle stops & delay boxes and all that; but to some guys it's intriguing.

I would like to see an all out, no limits (save things that endanger fans) class for what ever, powered by what ever. No weight limits, no safety limits, just whatever someone is willing to strap themselves to and blast off. Just keep lots of big black blankets in the safety safari to cover the bodies.

Top fuelers and funny cars must blatantly display the origin of their power plant on the side of the car-- or face a $50,000 dollar penalty.

No more lies.

Yes and tell Bob Tasca dont brag about his great Ford Mustang and not tell all it has a Hemi in it !

I love that idea as all I like to see anymore is NSS and the FAST and Pure Stock cars. In fact the only Pro class I watch on TV anymore is Pro Stock and it's getting harder to tell what kind of car they are anymore. Ron
