Big block stroker, please post your low rpm torque! - 04/18/20 02:11 PM

To learn a bit more about head choices for 493 to 540 STREET strokers, please post
1cubic inch
2head used
3Dyno torque down low, preferably from 2500 to 4000?
4work done on heads, compression ratio

Re: Big block stroker, please post your low rpm torque! - 04/18/20 02:35 PM

Going to be difficult to get correct numbers if they are chassis dyno numbers with a good converter. Not a whole lot of engine dyno runs are correctly logged from 2500 either.
Curious what shows up here though...

Greg I can't give you a dyno number but can give an et.

2) Edelbrock Performer
3) 7.02 in the 1/8 shift at 5500 in a 4150lb car
4)better valve job and minor bowl clean up, 11.5 comp

I agree it will be tough. But hopefully there will be enough info for making choices to fit various budgets and goals.

Outside your parameters but our 655 made 960ft/lbs at 5500..

Re: Big block stroker, please post your low rpm torque! - 04/18/20 06:26 PM

505, 10:1, RPM heads with valve job and bowl blend, original Torker, 850vs, 1-7/8” headers, small HFT cam.
Started pull at 3200........ 592ft/lbs.
Peak tq @4000....... 628ft/lbs.

Most of the stuff is run with an auto trans, and there isn’t much point in pulling the motor way down below what the converter would stall at........ so it’s pretty rare I’d pull one down to 3000 or lower.

No idea on the torque, but 770hp works well enough to carry the front wheels on my little 512/400 from 440source!

Re: Big block stroker, please post your low rpm torque! - 04/21/20 01:54 AM

I don't have the dyno sheets anymore, they went with the car, my first pump gas 511 C.I.400 block stroker motor with a set of 906 iron heads with 2.14 intake and 1.81 exhaust valves and mild porting, they flowed 266 CFM at .700 valve opening on a S/F 600 bench. It had 9.25 to 1 compression ration and low deck eddy six pack dual plane intake with 440 six pack carbs, it made over 400 Ft lb. at 2500 RPM and over 500 Ft' lb, at 3100 RPM and then went over 600 Ft lbs. from there until it made peak torque at 4500 RPM at 644 Ft. Lb. Peak HP was 612 HP at 5500 RPM but that stupid motpr would run faster shifting it at or above 7000 RPM shruggy.
I have notice on the pump gas motors I dyno tested, stock stroke or strokers, that had less than 10.5 to 1 compression that hey would make more torque than HP, once the compression goes above that they make more HP than torque confused
I'll look in the shop tomorrow morning and see if I can find some more recent dyno sheets luck

Re: Big block stroker, please post your low rpm torque! - 04/21/20 07:03 PM

My Mega 496 has 12.5 compression, I know a little steep. But w/Bullet custom hydraulic cam & Performer RPM heads, dual plane Performer RPM intake & only a 750dbl pumper made 581hp @ 5400 624tq @ 4300
Sorry cheated, used this on 2 posts

Re: Big block stroker, please post your low rpm torque! - 04/21/20 10:59 PM

I found some of the original sheets from my first dyno session on the 511 C.I. 400 stroker motor with the 906 iron heads and some from my current 400 block 517.2 C.I. E85 bracket motor.
The pump gas motor made 550Ft lbs. at 3000 RPM, peak torque at 4200,4300 and 4500 RPM of 633 Ft lbs testing air cleaners, peak HP was at 5500 and 5600 RPM with 605 HP.
My current bracket motor has a set of ported 440-1 heads with a set of Jesel 1.55 paired shaft rockers, Ultra dyne solid roller and a Indy 400-3 Intake with a A.J. Casselini converted Holley Dominator Compression ratio varies from 14.72 to 15.03 to 1.
I had issues with the Mopar bonze oil pump drive having the gear on crooked on the shaft or something causing it to make the distributor housing wobble making the timing goofy shock We set the timing and made three pulls before I saw the problem with the distributor moving realcrazy
That motor made 591.5 Ft lbs at 3900 RPM with416. HP, it made peak torque on that pull at 5800 RPM making 673.7 Ft. Lbs., peak 767. HP was at 6200 RPM , torque was still 649.7 FT lbs. at that RPM.
IHTHs.

Not trying to jump ship here but what about 4.15 x 4.31 Hemi with stock heads? I see from some of the combos above, those heads flow more than stock Hemi heads so would those engines be compatible in torque numbers? Impressive engine numbers for all posted so far.

Thanks as I figured its only about 600 at the flywheel and maybe 525 at the wheels on the calculator I used. But I would rather your figures be right. up Ron

My HEMI is 4.36 x 4.5 (540 ci). Strictly a street engine on pump 93. 10.3 compression, MP aluminum heads with bowl work. Mopar “Marine” dual plane intake, 248/254 @ .050 solid roller with .580 net lift.

It made 500. Ft Lb @ 3,000 rpm, 680 ft. Lb @ 4,500 rpm and 677 HP @ 5,800
