Milodon oil pan for A-Body w/Small Block - 04/02/20 01:26 AM

I need some help deciding whitch Milodon oil pan to buy. This is going in a 1970 Duster.
How low does the 8 3/4" sump (8 quart) hang below the K member?
The other on would be the 7 3/4" sump (7 quart)
This car is going to be street driven so I want to make sure we are not going to hit everything with it. tsk
I like the 8 quart capacity so if it don't hang to low that would be my first choice.

If anybody has any pictures that would be very helpful in helping me decide on a pan.

I helped my buddy with a Milodon pan for his duster and we learned make sure your headers fit with the 7 quart pan before you try to put it in the car. One of the tubes of his Hooker super comp headers was dead on the pan enough we had to ding the header and the pan about a 1/4"

My dad, my uncle and I, all run the 7qt milodon pan, all street cars, I have put 11k miles on my car, never hit the pan. We run tti and hooker comp headers. All clear. It’s as low as I would want to run on a legit street strip type deal, my scattershield hangs about a 1/4 lower than my pan.

I could measure it for you tomorrow or maybe add a pic.

I would go with the shallower one even if your car is stock height.. you would still have a filter...
thats plenty of oil

The road race pan is probably the best choice for a street car but it is fairly expensive.

Check out Kevko oil pans too. Much cheaper and has a crank scraper built in.

I've ran the 8 1/4" deep Milodon pans on my last three small blocks and never had any issues hitting anything. I've had to section them to clear the Hedman headers on the passengers side though and the bolt holes have to be elongated as none of the pans were square.

This a 2 x 4, 3 1/2".

Same pans we run on our street strip stuff.

While I don't have any measurements handy I have the 7 quart one on a low 68 Barracuda and haven't had any problems on the street. My K-member sits about has high as a beer can, and the pan hangs below that a few inches. Thousands of miles all over the country no problems.

I put the big one on a SB '74 Duster, and it sat about stock height in front.
The L/R corner of the sump interfered with the headers; an angled corner there fixed that.
R/F corner interfered with the K, notched the K about 1" x 1" for that.
Never hit a thing on the road, nor with my big-pan B-bodies.

Yep, forgot to mention notching the K member.
