Most likely the floats are to high and its still feeding fuel to the carb

Fuel puddling in the intake.
Power valve leaking.
Too high fuel rest pressure, pushing past seats. I.E.fuel in the lines heats up sitting

Most likely cause, floats too high.
Carb. and fuels gains temp. after its shut down.
Fuel expands and spills in.

Make sure you check your floats that they do float.. I have had some sink over the years.. that vapor you
see after you shut the engine off and pull the air cleaner off is what your smelling

All of the above. And, do you have the exhaust cross-over blocked? If not, that can boil the gas out of even a good carb.

I say water vapor. a byproduct of combustion. make sure you have good crankcase ventilation and if street driven a pcv helps. you can't prevent water vapor totally; unless maybe you live in a desert with zero percent humidity.
