You just keep making that car harder and harder to restore! Hopefully we can all move forward soon.

Before recessing them into the frame, how did you have them mounted? Were they bolted to a plate that was attached to the frame rail?
I am getting ready to mount mine sometime this week and i am trying to figure out the best way to do it.

Re: Leaf Spring slider Tech - 03/25/20 04:32 PM

I like that you moved the front perch up along with mounting the sliders to the frame. It seems to have a negative effect on 60' when the spring gets tipped up at the rear mounting point and is not longer close to or parallel with the chassis centerline. I moved the front eye of the leaf spring into the upper hole to compensate for the extreme angle created by replacing the shackles with sliders welded to the frame. The idea of shimming to weights right is cool too.

Thanks for sharing!

How do the sliders effect handling, or are they for drag racing only?

I am not familiar with this slider set up can someone explain?

It mounts to the rear of the leafspring replacing the shackle.

Supposed to keep the spring rate from changing and let the spring move freely.

Is it something you would employ with only a mono leaf Caltrac set up?
Posted By: GY3

Re: Leaf Spring slider Tech - 03/25/20 06:19 PM

I see no reason they couldn't be used with a conventional spring pack.

They seem to be most prevalent with the Cal-Trac crowd.

Its a roller bearing back where the leaf spring attaches at the rear... as to on the street.. the guys I put them
on for.. none had any issues.. it can make it handle a slight bit better due to less movement(side to side)

I drive mine on the street a lot, They sell a thick hard nylon block to replace the noisy bearings, custom built 4X4 trucks use sliders a lot !!! it allows the spring to work much better.

No, we used them years ago when dirt track cars still used leaf springs. It was years before I saw them on anything else.

I quit doing side work after I retired.. they are pretty easy to put on.. if you put them straight on
they will lower the back of the car some(about 1")

Here is a cool video of Jim Guy's Max Wedge 64 Belvedere.

Those sliders need to be moved forward. The slider hits the front of the mount at the launch. The bolt/roller should be 3/4 to the back of the slot, not in the middle. Don't ask how I know laugh2

would the type of shock or leafs have effect on that 3/4" measurement?

They look close but I've raced against this car plenty. It works real well. Agreed though there is slot not being used at the rear of the travel.

Re: Leaf Spring slider Tech - 03/27/20 07:42 PM

Speedway Sales them .. Make sure at ride height your slider is sitting more towards the back... Even with a very tight shock settings my car will pull the slider forward 3". On an 1/8 mile pass...

Re: Leaf Spring slider Tech - 03/27/20 08:42 PM

These are mounted too far forward and you can see the dr. side hit the ft. of the slider bracket.......should be 3/4's back or more to compensate for extension not compression...

Has anyone tried the sliders that have the extention built into them? So they allow more separation during the launch.. Ill search the pic and info

So has anyone tried these sliders yet?

They look interesting but will they work? Any thoughts. I am thinking they would not act as quickly as the laid down sliders. Not sure if that is good or bad?

Re: Leaf Spring slider Tech - 04/02/20 02:12 PM

They should plant quicker and have a lot more extention. Depending on shock settings of course. Id like to try a set but cant justify the costs right now. With whats going on..

On that same not has anyone used the Calvert slanted sliders? I bought the US MADE speedway sliders, they look the same, they could be the same and I will never know. The bolts and rollers that came with the sliders are for S/S springs. I had to buy the kit from Calvert to fit his slider. I should have bought the Cals in the 1st plce rolleyes
