511 winter updates

511 winter updates - 02/16/20 05:42 PM

Been tinkering in the garage on these cold boring weekends. Yesterday decided to clean up my Indy 400-3 because I thought it could use it and had nothing else to do. It was getting a bit dirty, so gave it a few coats of plasticolor with ceramic engine part.

Have a new cooling fan system with much bigger fans. Hope it cools this time, if not I will go back to mechanical fan and pump for good.

all looks great Dave.
I cut in rectangles in our fan shrouds and attack rubber flaps that open with mph but are pulled shut with the fan- seems to have helped a bit but, wont no for sure till we get in the upper 90's and above.

That's what my other fan shroud had, but smaller fans as well. I couldn't get it to cool in hot weather cruising down the road at any speed(218*). When I stopped it would cool down to the 200* range + or minus. Seemed like it wasn't getting enough air flow at speed.I drilled more 1" holes and added more rubber flaps to no avail. Couldn't figure it out, so back on went the mechanical fan. Cooled just fine. These Spal fans are the paddle variety and move much more air. Will see, fingers crossed.

that shroud is a killer we had customers who couldn't get their cars cooling with that fan setup. the shroud is a crappy design and block a lot of air flow

After using the other style with the 1” holes and rubber flaps I think it really comes down to fans and biggest most powerful fans that with fit. If the fans move enough air there should be no issue with air flow, at least that’s my idea. Like said earlier, if this set up doesn’t work I’m done spending money on it. Flex fan with Milodon hp pump and a shroud over cools this 511 filled with hard block.

The intake mods alone should be worth a tenth at least. ...Very nice. I ended up with an open space gave e the best ET....Mine want more plenum.

Also, if she is running hot, I went to a flow kooler mechanical, and that is working awesome....Might actually go back to mechanical on my Hemi...

We sit around sometimes down at the shop and think about what is left on the table, and porting an intake like you did is numero uno......

Last summer I removed the cast in clover leaf and opened up the plenum a bit. It was a bit of a hack job, so yesterday just wanted to clean that up and blend/ contour the plenum to the runners. As for the runners, I just took off the rough casting, just smoothing it out. I left the floor alone because I understand air/fuel moves thru the center of the port following close to the roof. Hope your right.

I don’t think your gonna get enough air flow on the street. You’ll have to try. I have my other shroud fan kit for sale in the classifieds. Your fans look the same.

Well that big iron block is really tough to cool on the street on a 90* day....At the track its not an issue at all, but cooling 300lbs of cast iron is a beotch on the street. I went to these fans, and they did help.
