Hemi head question - 02/11/20 03:02 PM
I have a 472 that was brought in with what was supposed to be Mopar Performance heads. Unfortunately, I am thinking they may be some Chinese knockoff. Did Mopar ever produce a head without the logo on it? Other things that make me think Chinese are the ugly steps about 1/2 inch into each intake port and the atrocious valve job.

I've never heard of any Chinese Hemi head. As far as a head without a logo...could be a Canfield piece?
Is this a crate motor? If so, it's probably one of the standard Cummins built/MP bombs.

Post some pics so we can see them.

Exhaust valve, gray area is where it is sealing on the backcut.
I’ve only had a couple sets of Stage V hemi heads in my shop.
If purchased as “bare heads”, they are very far from being ready to run.
I had flowed one in a semi-finished state way back(no porting), and they were rather unimpressive like that.
It was clear that wasn’t how they were intended to be used.
I’m sure a proper valve job, along some bowl work and blending the cnc’d opening into the runners will perk them right up.

with what they said, lol. Those are very good heads when done right. Probably bought bare and done up by who knows...obviously not very well.
BTW...I don't think there are any Chinese knock-off hemi heads on the market.
What I’ve seen with regards to stock, or “stock type” Gen II hemi heads is........ they don’t flow as well as what many people think they flow...... without fairly substantial porting done to them.
Stock 559’s with only the valve job touched up are a little over 300@.700.
The MP 559 replacements can be about 15-20 better, depending on which version 559-M it is.
The Ede made MP heads are in the 320 range ootb.
The Indy SR with a VJ and very mild bowl blend is in the mid-330’s.
The basic shapes of the ports are good on all the heads.
So, after they get the seats redone and bowls blended....... if you’re looking for a significant improvement in flow....... they just need to be made “bigger”.
If you’re building something with enough cubes to utilize a bigger head..... the assembled Ede Victors are over 400cfm ootb.

Will not mention any names. Professional shop, $30k build. I am not charging enough
I totally get where you’re coming from.
I’ve had my hands on some heads off pretty high dollar builds that I wasn’t too impressed with.
Those “what were they thinking” moments.
I wouldn’t mind seeing some pics of the valve job and bowls as they were.

Probably thinking I hope the check clears before he realizes what I sold him...

I have a customer in Dalton Ga that wrote the program and did mine. It saved me a lot of money.

Those heads don't look like the ones I got from Tim I got for a local customers, they where max ported with a lot more visual mods done to them to increase the air flow

^ Curious what would be visually different on the top 1.25" of intake runner?

That's why they are nice looking. I got my set last year (ordered the year before) and had to send them back due to porosity throughout the whole castings.
Still waiting for new castings to be had from Stage V.
Thanks

My StageVs were flowed at 367@.600, compared to what I have seen with modern CNC porting, they seemed pretty mild when I had them flowed 8 years ago. Tim
