MATS- Motel help - 01/12/20 01:22 AM

Need a little information on the motel 6 near the track. I am looking at attending this year and was curious if the motel was worth it. I am wanting something close by the track. I hope the moderators do not move this thread as I hang out here and there will be more opinions here as well. Thank you in advance for your help.

Thank you Moparts

Is it primarily there to service the race track ? Could be big $$ jsta for any type of racing action.

Check out the Super 8 motel about three miles down the road at Craig Road and Nellis Blvd. twocents
I like to use Nellis Inn Suites across from Nellis AFB on Nellis road also for longer stays, longer than 3 days they offer a better weekly rate scope

We stayed at the Super 8 years ago. That place is shady to say the least. We left early on our last day and saw poet-left taking rooms that had been vacated from prior guests earlier than when we left. They had someone working there giving the keys to rooms for who knows what. Would never stay there again.

If there is a number on the sign , be it name or price , you are getting off at the hospitality ground floor.
That doesn't mean they won't jack the prices on event week ends , so lock in early if you think it is an option.
I have been in some of them that were nice , quiet properties , and the T.V. worked and the roof didn't leak.
And I have been in some that were expensive crack houses , with hookers surrounding the place after sundown.
Security is usually good if you can park in view of the front door.

Why not stay downtown? More places to eat more things to see.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I should have said the time we stayed at the super 8 was the year they opened LVMS. I will check it out for rates. Don’t really want to stay downtown. Haven’t lost anything there.

Is the Cannery still an option? Never stayed there.

Thanks again

there are several other motels on Craig road besides the cannery that are decent scope
Has the track or promoter made any special deals with any motels?

Re: MATS- Motel help - 01/13/20 03:44 PM

We stayed at the Super 8 a couple years ago. It wasn't cheap, we took everything with us every time we left, and spent more than if we would have if we would have made advance reservations at the Cannery.

Travel a little farther, spend a little more and feel safe, which is more fun than being nervous.

IMO the area on Craig road anywhere near the track is best avoided. It is not the nicest neighborhood to be sure, then again it is very close to a quite active Air Force base that at times has a very high Ops tempo and it quite noisy. Another option for those wanting something noicer with a casino attached is the Aliante Casino and hotel. It is a nice enough place with a lot of restaurants and of course a casino. The Cannery has nothing to do with this race any longer and again not the best area to be in but certainly better than those close to the base. The host hotel is the D which undergoing a large remodel so not sure on that one. It is in the downtown/Fremont street area.

Jay you can still get your fun book, just says Lucky Club on it now. $9.99 Steak and Lobster Daily and 10% off all food at the grille. Oh yeah don't know of anyone else that has $1 black jack. And the BEST taco place in town in right on the other side of $15

(this is in no way an endorsement of the Lucky Club, if you like flashing red lights at night this might be the place for you, on a positive note they have truck parking)

Re: MATS- Motel help - 01/15/20 01:42 AM

Thanks for all the suggestions. Glad I waiting to see the “better” places are coming out! LOL. I’m thinking the Motel 6 will be the best. Close proximity to the track. I'm not a gambler so a casino/hotel wouldn’t work.

Al: The last time I was in Vegas was three years. We went out to the RB auction site. Before that we stopped at a small restaurant on the Main Street to the track. Is it still there and open? By the way Al, are you going to race your car?

Thanks again to all. I appreciate it.

Before I forget, the year we stayed at the Super 8 was 2000. Came down to the race to help out the Hool brothers with there alcohol funny car. They, along with Bucky Austin, were the first pair of alcohol funny cars down the track.

The Race Day Cafe' is still alive and well. Pretty good food actually. I plan to be running my car if it stays in one piece and is still mine smile
