That's some beautiful hardware right there, I don't care who you are...
What kind of cam (and RPM) will you be running? Those valve springs look like they could double as coil-overs!

Shilo you would rather use an R block than the Ritter? Just curious as the Ritter looks much better to me.

. Ritter block is definitely a more advanced .. I just don't feel the quality of the casting has been there... I have heard they have gotten .better.. But out of the too early blocks that I had both Had issues...

Ok. I'm surprised there are many R blocks even around...unless someone as a stash of them. Getting pretty rare.

Looks like there needs to be another unit of measurement for volume:
oz = ounces
cc = cubic centimeters
sc = spray cans

that poor ole G body you keep beating up on won't know what hit him....that intake is a true work of art, I wonder How many of the Chevy guys switched to the new intake vs the old 420.
Is there room in the R3 block to use cartridge liters ?

Seems to be a great shop. I was going to have them do a block for me but wait time to start was something like fourteen weeks which I guess is a recommendation in itself. While all my discussions were via email they were very responsive and prices were reasonable.
Thanks for sharing the build of the "new bullet".

Te me about the milling between the intake lifter bores. I'm assuming they may have been moved over but why mill the outside?

Re: The new bullet - 12/08/19 04:24 PM
My guess on the valley machining is that the block is cast for both 59°& 48° lifter locations. Looks like lightening is the only purpose.

But if you want to pay for it , you can get anything you want.

Re: The new bullet - 12/14/19 08:06 PM
Seems to me a 47-degree could use a 48-degree core. Cam grinder may whine a bit but I'm sure it's all sorted out ahead of time.

Re: The new bullet - 12/14/19 08:09 PM
Marsh has them.........
Race Roller UGL Camshafts
48° tappet “R” blocks (R1, R2, R3, R4) and 48° tappet aluminum blocks require special camshafts. These UGL (unground lobe) camshafts enable cam grinders to grind specific cam profiles to create a finished cam. Cannot be used in engine as-is.

Looks like overkill if the intake is steel, considering the exhaust takes a greater load. Beautiful stuff though.

Steel is the way to go if your running a bunch of spring pressure and RPM, over 7500 RPM
Posted By: WHITEDART
Re: The new bullet - 01/09/20 05:31 AM
... The exhaust rocker works a little harder then the intake... Didn't see a performance advantage for the dollar spent with this combination... We are running very low Spring pressures on this motor.... Spring pressures that would make most people cringe
Posted By: Jeremiah
Re: The new bullet - 01/09/20 11:33 AM
Light valve + light retainter/lock + light spring = lower spring pressure. For instance look at the springs specced for modern stuff with, say a .750 lift cam compared to the drag racing section. Take 50g off the intake valve using Ti valves and 100g using an ovate spring and spring pressure requirements drop. At least that is what I am hearing from vendors for the N/A applications. FWIW the cam grinders are insisting we keep the big spring pressure (250/770) with the n20.
Does this engine have Ti valves on bith jntake and exhaust?

Re: The new bullet - 01/09/20 03:20 PM
Is that cam a 60mm? Are you using babbit or roller cam bearings?

With spintron testing, its crazy what they are getting away with on spring pressure this year. I have a big block that see's 8-9000rpm all day. Has T&D steel rockers and never have had an issue with them.... see the large offset BBC rockers break all the time.. FWIW I run 525#'s closed and 1485 # open

1.350ish set up for about 1in off lift. And under 200lb on the seat

Re: The new bullet - 01/10/20 05:28 PM
I have seen guys use a spring with say a 2.00" installed height at 2.050-2.100 to drop the seat pressure and gain IH for more lift. I have looked through a ton of spring catalogs and never saw a spring with less than a 1.400 OD over .850 lift. I'd be interested to know if the spring is ovate wire? Sorry for the barrage of technical questions this is a topic that has been on my radar in a big way.
